We've had an 'Old Mum' suspect, the one who was letting off shots for New years, in an earlier episode/series.
The other 'Old Mums' sit on the beach performing neighbourhood watch duties or are off at the Fish Market.

Severe lack of sarky old/odd people this series too.

Mimi is starting to act and look a bit too louche, looks like the type to hit on women all day as a hobby.

I wonder what the Italians have made of it?

I know an Italian family who live here in the UK and they love it, but find the Sicilian dialect amusing.

When I was on holiday in September, RAI Uno (Italy's biggest TV channel) was showing repeats of Montalbano in prime time. It was on immediately after Affari Tuoi, the Italian version of Deal Or No Deal, and at the end of that show the presenter kept saying "Montalbano sono! Montalbano sono!".

So I think Montalbano must be quite a hit over there.

I'm going to miss 'sexy legs' Salvo next week.

I'm always amused that everywhere seems deserted, either this is because it's filmed very early in the morning, or maybe the whole place is "radioactive."
It was an adequate story, but I was fed up with Livia by the end as she added nothing to the story and seemed only there to bring drama to the unlikely final scene.

I'll miss Mentalbandy, but the sunshine even more.

It's been suggested here before that Livia's character is there as a condition of joint funding of the production from another European broadcaster, presumably as she's known to the audience of that country.

It's been often commented that her lines are dubbed. I didn't really notice before but I did last night. Now I've seen it, I can't see how I missed the lack of lip sync before.

I quite enjoyed it last night. Of the recent series of four, the first story was a bit of a rambling mess while the others were often a bit disjointed but still good telly and well worth watching.

One last thing: in last night's story a roomful of telephone tappers all sat round in white coats while they worked. I know white coats are TV drama shorthand for 'something sciencey or technical' but why white coats?

Realistic? Nope.

I have always preferred Ingrid to Livia. She is so much more fun than Livia who rarely smiles.

It has been weird as we have had 2 hours shows over 10 consectutive weeks. Where you only get four weeks max a year if we were following Italian pace.

I wonder if Livia is such a prominent fixture in the books.

The first episode did have those absurdly wonderful nipples though.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten. Some nice scenery and there were some good points.

I've always assumed 'Montalbano speaking'.

I think it means "I am Montalbano", but it's the Sicilian way of saying it where they put the verb ("sono") after the name instead of before it ("io sono Montalbano" would be more common in Italy).

Each to their own - many of us enjoy IM. It's not like there's always Nordic drama on when IM isn't on anyway - sometimes there's no subbed drama.

Ty Ink...I had looked up sono and it said "are" so I was genuinely puzzled

No wonder you're puzzled - io sono = I am; loro sono = they are. In Italian there is usually no need to use the personal pronoun, as in io, for example, unless you wish to stress something. So Montalbano sono really does mean I am Montalbano and it is the Sicilian habit to put the verb in this case after.

I think those that like IM are supposed to get all annoyed and try to defend it, probably.

I couldn't care less if someone hates it, I love it and it's them that are missing out.

As another FM upthread said 'each to his own'
I don't watch any of the other foreign crime stuff people enthuse about.
Spiral, holes and no charm, Wallander again holes and no charm.
IM is also full of holes but has enough charm to make it worthwhile filling in the blanks or ignoring some of them.

Bridge, Killing, Borgen, simply couldn't be ar$ed.
Sebastian Berman wasn't bad.
Prefer Radio 4's plays in the Foreign Bodies series.

Edit; Wasn't Inspector Da Luca supposed to be in the BBC 4 pipeline?
