To be fair they're a bit of an odd couple. They live ages away and rarely see each other; they can never fully make up their minds what on earth to do re. their relationship. He has now proposed and then instantaneously retracted (in his mind). Neither of them are particularly reliable partners. By the time of 'normal' Montalbano they must have been going out about 15 years!

I caught the 2nd part of this film/miniseries which starred Luca Zingaretti on True Movies tonight

Oh no, I really like the young Livia. She's gorgeous.

Yes she is definitely the best looking Livia (we've had three by my calculations) but I'm talking about the devious sly lying miserable character.

Bank managers and rally drivers : you can't go wrong.

An episode last night that made me laugh a few times - mainly due to Mimi's hissy fit at not being Salvo's witness. Who would have thought he could be so petty and sensitive over that?

That wife was a bit forward with Salvo and he looked at bit terrified.

A little disappointed that the bank manager didn't feature. Surely, getting married, Salvo would have needed her to check out his credentials.

Not surprised re. Mimi. He has a fragile ego and that's why he's a womaniser as well. He has acted out quite a few times to Salvo even in the 'up to date' Montalbano. Cracked me up that Salvo kept calling him 'sick' especially to that waitress!

I had to laugh when Catarella was doing embroidering a present for Salvo and Livia.... it would be like Svartman knitting a jumper for Wallander

I'm not sure I'd entirely agree with your characterisation of the older Livia, but it certainly doesn't apply to the young Livia. Perhaps years of being strung along and messed about by Salvo made her bitter. Anyway, I still prefer the younger Livia to the bank manager from last week.

I agree. I like young Livia a lot, I like all the younger versions of the characters, I think its a very enjoyable prequel but also stands on its own two feet if you didn't watch the previous ones. Plus the lack of mobile phones and the internet is fun too, sometimes there is just too much technology everywhere.

Is anyone watching Young Montalbano now?

I watched but I don't post during subtitled drama.

As soon as the fishermen seemed to be hiding something (beyond accident/murder) it seemed highly likely to do with smuggling something. It was a toss-up between drugs and people.

Not too bad. Salvo's 'escaped' marriage so Livia won't be around so much now.
Mimi's a real, dedicated woman-chaser and I don't know what to think about him.

Watched the first episode, "the man who followed funerals". Didn't really enjoy it though, and have not watched any more, its not a patch on the original Montalbano series' tbh.

So now that the marriage is on the back-burner I think that Salvo should pay another visit to his friendly bank manager.

Felt a bit sorry for Fazio who didn't get the girl in spite of being so earnest.

I would have let Mimi deal with the two sisters - what could have gone wrong?

What on earth is wrong with Salvo's simplistic attitude towards dress sense?

I get the feeling that Catarella is behind Salvo's impending hair loss.

The actor who plays Mimi in this version uses his hands when he's speaking so much - more than the others who are obviously also meant to be Sicilians. I find this Mimi more sleazy even than the one in normal Monty.

I loved the first series of YM (was it 2014?) and had no idea the second series was being broadcast now. Caught a glimpse of last night's ep before realising it was number three!

Catching up on ep 1 on iplayer now. I think it's great

I saw YM before the original so I actually prefer it!

Maybe Mimi becomes slightly more mature by the time of Mentalbaldo

I thought it was a good episode until Livia turned up. She seems to bring any episode down. I do get the feeling though that the writers have painted themselves into a corner by introducing all the characters that are in normal Montalbano all at once. They could have brought them altogether a bit more slowly. Does no one have any ambition in the Police force in Italy? Do you stay in the same job for life?

I'm enjoying this second series, but I too am fed up with Livia. In both young Montalbano and the original.

The main supporting cast of Young Mimi, Young Fazio and Young Catarella were introduced over the course of the first season which is fair enough

Aside: The character Khan from the original Star Trek was played by Ricardo Montalban. He reappeared in The Wrath of Khan. Is there any geographical or other connection?

Another vote here for the Young Montalbano

So far, I would say that S2 is probably on a par with S1.

I have to agree with some of the others on here and say that I find the whole Livia storyline rather sickly. Maybe I'm not much of a romantic

I especially like the soundtrack and I think that Olivia Sellerio is a great singer.

I don't think I've ever seen a full episode of the regular Montalbano series but I have the gist of what goes on, who's who etc. I really enjoy YM but even having the small bit of knowledge of what happens in the "future" makes it more fun.

Yay!

Spoiler
The pretty bank manager is back this Saturday. Mimi, for one, will be happy. And is Salvo single again?
