I love both Montalbanos, although to be honest I fancy old, bald, Montalbandy more. The two series are formulaic but satisfying. But I agree that they've introduced all the elements of old Montalbano too quickly.

Livia is simply around to assure us that Salvo is straight. The Livia in the 'old' series is a pain in the neck, and poorly dubbed. 'New' Livia is sweeter, but just as superfluous. The real romance is between Salvo and Mimi.

Still don't get how baldy podgy Montalbano can be sexier than svelte Michele Riondino and his luxurious locks!

I slightly prefer Michele Riondino....or should I say Fernando Alonso!

Salvo, Salvo, Salvo. How on earth can you return to the morose Livia when you have the stunning Stella waiting for you in a Madrid hotel room. I share Mimi's sometimes disappointment in you.

Stella was fun and direct - traits I adore in women.

I was in Punta Secca, aka Vigata, in October 2014 when they were filming on the beach outside Salvo's house. A body Is on the beach and Salvo and Livia, I think, run down from the house to look.

It was just a day out for me to Punta Secca. We had no idea they were filming so it was all very exciting.

I'm assuming this scene will be in next week's final episode of this series.

I don't mind the Livia storyline so much though I was snickering away at the wedding planning, knowing how THAT was going to end. The bank manager was fun in this episode though and kind of put Livia in the shade.... I guess Livia is just moping about the house on her apparently endless annual leave from her job when he's at work whereas the bank manager is a mover and shaker in the Vigata Financial District

Mimi is hilarious. I also love the volatile pathologist and Salvo's amusement when Fazio was arguing with him "he put you in your place" (ie glad someone else is getting it in the neck for once!)

I agree with Salvo.. circuses are depressing

Loved Mimi and others being upset at his move. Mimi does seem needy in his younger form.

At least they explained where Mentalbaldy got his set of skeleton keys from!

Another excellent episode. Right from the beginning with girl in the bar, trying lure Salvo with her décolletage, that you knew she was going to die.

Although, Salvo is attempting to transfer to Genoa, one knows he will stay in Vigata, Sicily. Just need to see next weeks episode to learn more.

I personally find it strange that in Montalbano, the title of Commissario translates to Inspector, when it should be Chief of Police..just my opinion.

Loving this series which helps colour in the background to Montalbano's situation. I think he should be with the bank manager instead of Livia. And for what it's worth, I prefer young Montalbano to old Montalbano, BUT I prefer old Mimi to young Mimi. Young Mimi reminds me of Borat.

Did anyone else notice how Catarella stopped crashing the door and getting people's names wrong when he thought Salvo was leaving?

That's true but Chief of Police Montalbano doesn't exactly roll off the tongue as the title of a tv show does it??

I've tried to check back to see if this has been mentioned already... I didn't dare come here until I'd caught up with airings.

In the first or second episode Salvo is at his desk and Mimi opposite him, and Salvo hands Mimi a letter to read. When Mimi hands it back to him... they're on Salvo's 'patio' overlooking the beach

It did put me off for a while, I couldn't help wondering how many scenes are green-screened, or however it is they do it.

Oo sounds interesting! Apparently Bjarne Henriksen (Theis in The Killing 1 and also of Borgen fame) is in it.

So is Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson from Icelandic film Jar City which was shown on BBC4 back in 2012.
