His attitude to having a gay son, when asked the hypothetical question by Sally last week, lets him down though.

Yes but the gypsy community are very old fashioned and pro rata there probably aren't that many gays, or if there are they keep schtum. I think he would learn to understand gays if they had put one in the house, just as so many people are warming to Paddy that previously had no time for gypsies, myself included. It's simply fear of the unknown, certainly not hate.
I think the ratio is the same as anywhere GF so I would say they keep schtum as is the case in any community where homosexuality is not accepted. So I compeletely understand the reason why his homophobia exists and would hope that this foray into wider circles makes him a more tolerant person. |

Still grinning from ear to ear, he came across really well in his interview and on BOTS too, his surprise and emotion at winning is very, very touching.

Absolutely fantastic result. I'd hoped Paddy would do it, but like most, thought Jedward had it in the bag. This was a well deserved victory for a great housemate.

What did he say ?
Anyway, it was the way he found the suggestion insulting and insisted his boys were all 'stallions'. I understand it's his background that has instilled this view in him and in his culture calling a man 'gay' is extremely insulting but still. I hope the experience will broaden his thinking. |

Sally had clearly watched My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and she knew what sort of reaction that question would provoked him, same with asking him if he does housework at home. Gypsy men do not do housework.
I think he knew she was stirring. He didn't get aggressive about the question he sort of laughed and wanted to know why she'd asked such a ridiculous question his boy wouldn't be gay because his boy is a stallion. I was disappointed with his response at the time too but giving it some thought, he's been brought up that way. It's his culture. He didn't say anything derogatory about gays. Good on him for winning. |

Good on him for winning. Sally was pulling his chain and he knew it too, they were both laughing as were the other HMs who were there at the time. He even said something along the lines of "aw woman, why do you do this to me", so I got the feeling it was a bit of a regular tease between them.
