When I first saw sean in mondays episode of corrie i wasnt sure if he was right for the street. But i thought tonights episode was class with him saying he can read six packs like brail, lol . The scenes with eileen were great aswell. However i think he is one of those characters you are either going to love or hate. What do you think?

I agree that people will either love or hate him, he's like the human version of marmite. In saying that, i haven't made up my mind yet

At the moment I am loving him but he could get annoying pretty quickly!

I love him at the moment too. He's over the top and very funny. Love him on the street, couldn't live with him though.

After watching on Monday i didn't really like him, but after tonight he's growing on me.

LOVE him... i loved the braille line tonight... he's my reason to watch Corrie again...

I think Corrie has always had an obviously appealing 'camp' humour (Blanche, who seems to be a universally popular comedy character, could easily be a stalwart off 'Are You Being Served" or "Open All Hours"), it does it very well, but that's because it taps the semi-observational Victoria Wood humour (that's why Peter Kay, who has a sort of humour quite like Wood, could slip into Corrie. even if his cameo was poo) which is very 'British' and very popular. But I think it'll be a little awkward having such an openly ultra camp fairy type gay. It'll be very hard for them to make him sympathetic when he's put into a dramatic focus.

Hes alright, I wouldnt say I love him yet though, but I reckon hes gonna be good for the show as people seem to be warming to him

I am really not liking him at the moment. I think he's way too OTT and its like they've brought in a completely stereotypical gay character in (yes I know all gays are not like that), just my opinion though.

hes funny, but i can se e why some ppl dont like him. He seems like 1 of those characters who will start to get annoying after scene after sceneof the same thing. At the moment I think hes well funny and a good addition to the street!

I like him. I was reading an article today by accident really about Will and Grace and the importance of the show in terms of American TV and how it broke some ground over there. It said there was a poll conducted of gay men in America with their views of the show and rather than being annoyed or insulted by the stereotypical camp Jack character, they were more annoyed at how 'straight' the main gay character Will was portrayed.

It also said that although the Jack character was such a camp man (like Sean in Corrie), people like that do exist and it was brave to just represent that. They said they understood that Jack did not represent the whole gay communtiy and that it was great that a character on the show could be so openly and honestly gay and be able to be 'himself' without shame rather than the new form of gay character on TV who was always a do-gooder type trying to be accepted and almost asexual. If the gay people like that over here feel that way about this character I don't know, but I do get what they mean - people like Sean obviously exist and rather than worry how people take to the character, maybe Corrie is quite brave putting him there with all his campness and talking about the kind of men he fancies at 7.30pm rather than making the gay character like 'Will' in Will and Grace.

I think if those who don't like Antony Cotton (Sean) watched his performance in Queer as Folk you dislike him a lot more because he was playing a similar character in that and was excellent.
Try and remember though he is a fictional character, unlike Michelle from Big Brother who is real and horrible.

Pop Princess - I totally agree. I'm so so sick of soaps always having gay characters who are made to look as "straight" as possible. It's like, oh we don't want to offend the gay community so let's make him "normal" and also there's probably a "we want to show people that homosexuals are exactly the same as everyone else" mentality so they make the gay character have NO gay characteristics whatsoever except for fancying men.

Of course there are "straight acting" gay people, but there are LOADS of OTT camp gay men too. And what about in between? Mostly restrained and similar to straight males but with a few feminine and "fairy-like" characteristics? There are SO many like that, but it's never represented in a soap.

Well done to Corrie for doing this I say, although that's not to say he won't become very annoying. Same with Emmerdale's upcoming drag queen.

Undecided. When I saw him first I thought No Way way way way too much. Then last night he was a little better but like I said undecided. If I wanted to watch Graham Norton I'd watch his programme not Corrie.

Love him! Makes me laugh and there are people like that around and it is (as another poster put) very brave of Corrie. He may represent the stereotypical gay man but there are people like that and there is no need to pussyfoot around such a character!

Actually, as I've posted on another thread, I think Corrie is to be congratulated because Sean ISN'T a cliché; he's an ironic and knowing subversion of a cliché, which is a bold and courageous move on the part of the producers. Full marks, too, to Antony Cotton for getting the tone just right.

The comparisons with Will and Grace are valuable, though; personally, I think Sean needs a "Will" (no pun intended) in the show as a counterbalance. But we'll have to wait and see on that one...
