The comparisons with Will and Grace are valuable, though; personally, I think Sean needs a "Will" (no pun intended) in the show as a counterbalance. But we'll have to wait and see on that one...”

Oh ok, still love him!

What I was saying, going round the houses as usual, is that I like him ("love" is perhaps going too far at this stage, though...)

Oh yeah I know, sorry. I did understand that you were not refering to him in a derogatory way. Sorry....Looking at a long day here

I didn't like his first scene, but then I warmed to him later in the episodes. I particularly liked Jason's face when he was singing the song from Annie. As long as they don't overdo him, and he doesn't overdo it, he'll be great.

Sean is an important character in teh context of Weatherfield (Manchester) as he is and has been a highly visible character in the Manchester gay scene I believe. It's important that soaps are representative of the culture of a place and the gay village around Canal Street is a key part of Manchester's cultural revival. And before anyone says anything its a place very popular with straight people and with many straight girls especially as they know they can have a good night out with no hassle from straight guys who are only after one thing.

I prefer him now to when he was in it before; some of his one liners are good, and he and Eileen could make a good double act. But I'm not sure if him being so OTT isn't going to annoy me. I think he's good, in small doses.

Surely they overdone him by making him sing a song from Annie?!?!

For the record I hate him!

Love him. He is not too over the top when you think about what they could have made him like.

I assume the ones who don't like Sean are homophobic as well.

a straight person can be annoying so what difference if a gay person is annoying and u can dislike them, being homophobic doesnt come into it.

Exactly, but some people can be very quick to go on the defensive and accuse people.

Absolutely love him and I already think he works well with Sue Cleaver who plays Eileen.

He didn't have to sing Annie but I think it rings true. Did anyone see Marco from BB sing songs from Chicago (I think it was) as well as The Little Mermaid?!? And he is real!

It said there was a poll conducted of gay men in America with their views of the show and rather than being annoyed or insulted by the stereotypical camp Jack character, they were more annoyed at how 'straight' the main gay character Will was portrayed.

It also said that although the Jack character was such a camp man (like Sean in Corrie), people like that do exist and it was brave to just represent that. They said they understood that Jack did not represent the whole gay communtiy and that it was great that a character on the show could be so openly and honestly gay and be able to be 'himself' without shame rather than the new form of gay character on TV who was always a do-gooder type trying to be accepted and almost asexual. If the gay people like that over here feel that way about this character I don't know, but I do get what they mean - people like Sean obviously exist and rather than worry how people take to the character, maybe Corrie is quite brave putting him there with all his campness and talking about the kind of men he fancies at 7.30pm rather than making the gay character like 'Will' in Will and Grace.”

I completely agree with all that, Pop Princess.

I read something similar about W&G a while ago - the article I read pointed out that at that stage Will had never had a boyfriend on the show, so although he was notionally gay, he was kind of asexual.

It'll be interesting to see how the dynamics of W&G alter (if at all) when Will has a regular partner in the upcoming season 7.

Yep, I don't know anything about the boyf but I assume he will be pretty straight-seeming too. Grace being married didn't seem to change things too much!

There is a case for Will being the 'acceptable face of gay men' - i.e. those whose sensibilities might be offended could pretend he's not gay at all - but Jack has an almost equal role in the show and he's camper than Kenneth Williams. Although... he's never had a boyfriend either has he? (I have missed some eps so I could be wrong.)

Now you see, I think Jack from Will & Grace is hilarious, why do I hate Sean?

I'm having a very early mid-life crisis here!

I've heard that Antony Cotton (Sean) won't be in Corrie for long as he's going to go back to education and go to a university in Manchester

Only kidding Ben, he won't be joining you.
