There is a case for Will being the 'acceptable face of gay men' - i.e. those whose sensibilities might be offended could pretend he's not gay at all - but Jack has an almost equal role in the show and he's camper than Kenneth Williams. Although... he's never had a boyfriend either has he? (I have missed some eps so I could be wrong.)”

Depends if you're watching Season 5 on C4 or Season 6 on Living. In Season 6 Jack is actually living with a guy; and Will has just started dating a cop (oh, and Karen is about to marry John Cleese, who's the father of Minnie Driver...!) Grace hasn't been seen much because of Debra Messing's pregnancy (she had to be written out of the last few eps of Season 6)

You're not THAT far behind then... That was the end of Season 5/start of Season 6, I think...

That's good.. I know I shouldn't, but now I'm curious so: Does Leo's colleague who's lusting after him, steal him from Grace?

Leo sort of disappears through Season 6 (supposedly working in Africa); but I believe he comes back for the series finale (airing on Wednesday on Living).

I think it's because the whole concept of W&G is based around these eccentric characters, and so Jack fits in perfectly. In Corrie, the concept of the show is different, and while it's viewers aren't against homosexuals in the programme, it's just that Sean is very OTT, and could feel just too much to watch.

I still haven't decided about Sean something’s I think he says are funny and others I just think shut up. And about Will and Grace (sorry to go off topic) but watching it on channel 4 am I really behind, with Will realising he fancies Barry but Jack asks him out, which was the last episode on Friday. Thanks L.C x

Of course there are "straight acting" gay people, but there are LOADS of OTT camp gay men too. And what about in between? Mostly restrained and similar to straight males but with a few feminine and "fairy-like" characteristics? There are SO many like that, but it's never represented in a soap.

Well done to Corrie for doing this I say, although that's not to say he won't become very annoying. Same with Emmerdale's upcoming drag queen.”

You really would have done better to have watched the contributions by Lords Maginnis,Smith and Fitt (fromNorthern Ireland) as well as Lord Tebbitt along with Roman Catholic peeresses in the Lords debate on the Civil Partnerships Bill. You would have seen how easily basic civil rights for homosexuals have been dismissed in Parliament. Limp-wristed mincing "poofs" and prancing "Pride Queens" with pink feathers stuck up the arses are ammunition with which the bigots keep prejudice alive.

No-one "needs" to camp it up ..it is a device for attracting trade especially among bisexual "straight" men who realise they can have a bit on the side without the risk of pregnancy, etc, etc.

Mincing Myrtle is the odd one out...Cotton is a self-characture from which I had hoped gay men had moved on.

With respect, who are you to say how gay men should or shouldn't behave? In seemingly suggesting that they shouldn't camp it up, you are merely replacing one form of repression with another...

As for the suggestion that camp exists ONLY to attract bisexual men for sex, I'm afraid the words "absolutely" and "ludicrous" are dancing at the tip of my tongue...

Yes, Sean, played by Antony Cotton is OTT; but give me that, any day, over the dreadful Colin (played by Michael Cashman), with whom DeadEnders patronized me in the 1980s.

The problem, it seems to me, is that too many gay men are still fighting the battles which were won years ago. Fortunately, most of us have moved on and are now happy to party...

Thought I would bring this up again after last night. Still loving him! I thought he would be a bitchy, nasty character but how sweet he got sacked for nicking the face cream for Eileen. Fair enough stealing is wrong, but still how sweet.

I have to watch Corrie with my mum when Sean is on. She loves him to bits...her words "aww he is nice". Although I did have to explain to her what camp was

Have decided that I like Sean now. As I said wasn't too sure at first but now having given him a week or so I like him esp after last night stealing the cream for Eileen.

Apologies if this has been discussed on another thread today, but just bringing this TTT because I wondered what others now thought about Sean?

I thought we saw a completely different side to him last night - it was interesting that he became a different person really when he was alone with Todd, none of the over the top campness. I guess this is meant to indicate that the campness is a 'front', he is as it were giving heterosexuals what they expect from a gay man. But with Todd he doesn't have to bother with that.

I'm not convinced he's the world's best actor, but at least he has shown that the writers have created a character which isn't one dimensional, and has some depth.

I wasn't convinced about Sean at first but he's really grown on me and I like him now I loved the scenes between him and Todd last night, it was interesting seeing him being more serious, I thought it showed a new depth to his character.

I think Sean's adorable. I loved him in the Canal Street episode way back in April and I think he's just what the Grimshaw's need to brighten the place- especially after what they've been through this year. Here's hoping Eileen sees sense after Friday...

And I thought he was very... 'reserved' last night. Not camp at all. When he was telling Todd about his disillusioned growing up, I just wanted to give him a hug!

Ok, now I love Sean, and I never expected to, but he's really grown on me.

Yeh, it was a nice surprise to see that side of him.

By the way, Sean fans - Anthony C was on This Morning today, and he said Sean is just about to leave the Street for a short while, but he said not to worry, he will soon be back.

I think he has settled in really well and he and Eileen and Jason work very well together.

Loving Sean now. Certainly don't want Eileen to boot him out just cause slapper Sarah has slept with both of her sons now and she decides she wants to keep Jason happy. Where will Sean go once she does ask him to leave? Who will take him in???
Lippincote

Don't know who will take him in - but Anthony C said that Sean returns to Eileen's shortly - at Jason's request!
