Different DVD Regions on One PC - Heelp

Hello,

I bought my sister in the states some BBC DVds that she wanted as a present when I went to visit.

Her PC DVD ROM drive is locked to region 1. She was considering getting a DVD/RW anyway.

Will this be locked to region 1 as soon as its installed, or could we lock it to region 2, giving her the ability to watch her British discs on one drive, and the yank stuff on the other?

Any help appreciated

Liam

if it is bought in this country, then it should be region 2 from the box.as far as i know, the americans don't tend to have multi region players, but someone may correct me on this.i also dont know if there will be power supply issues to contend with.

Her idea is to buy a DVD/RW drive where she lives, and install it on her PC, then playing UK discs until the drive gets locked on the 5th go.

I don't know if the copy management in PowerDVD etc will accept that.

has anyone heard of two seperate drives locked to different regions on one PC or if there are any DVDRW drives that can be made region free

Cheers

I made my original pioneer PC DVD drive region free by flashing on a hacked firmware (can be hazardous i.e. dead drive - if you don't know what your doing).

Most drives start as region 'open' and you can set them to what you want - but you only have 5 switches then its locked to the last used region.

Do a search for the program 'DVD Genie' - that allows region switching and iirc defeats the count

There's also some software called AnyDVD which you install and then don't have to worry about switching Regions as it makes your PC effectively multi-region. Don't think it's free though.

Some more links!

Hello again,

thanks for the links, I did try DVDGenie but to no effect, I wonder if adding another drive is the way round this.
