Here are a few other options instead of saying that everything is "dire"...

Appaling, awful, calamitous, cataclysmic, catastrophic, disastrous, godawful, horrible, horrid, ruinous, terrible, woeful, dismal, dreadful, grim....

Look up sarcasm in your dictionary. If you want to make derogatory comments about anything at least try to make them witty instead of childish

Ah, Alan, I admire your sarcasm. Like me, you clearly regard it as the highest - not the lowest - form of wit...

Sarcasm is the highest form of wit but the lowest form of intelligence is what my dad used to say to me

Or indeed ironic - which is sometimes confused with sarcasm

Indeed. And the two combined can be devastating... as Churchill often proved.

Woman: Winston, if I were your wife I would put poison in your coffee.

Churchill: Madam, if I were your husband, I would drink it...

Winston Churchill in house of Commons
'Half the people in this house are idiots.'

Speaker
'Mr Churchill I would ask you to withdraw that remark as it is offensive'

Winston Churchill
'I withdraw the remark, half the people in the house are not idiots.'

Irony or sarcasm??

Oh, surely both?

How about this one:

Bessie Braddock: Winston, you're drunk...

Churchill: Madam, you're ugly. But in the morning I shall be sober...
