Couple questions?

Hi All,
First, I see Channel 5 are advertising that Big Brother is in HD. How can I get Channel 5 in HD? I have a Humax Foxsat HDR, (Freesat). (Please note: that this is not for me but my wife....who would want to watch it at all, never mind in HD)

Second. I have a dish with quad lnb, two feeding the Foxsat and two others to Technomates FTA and an aerial to receive Saorview (Irish Terrestrial) from 3 Rock. I know I can join a sat and aerial lead and then split them to run both signals in 1 cable, but how much, if any, deterioration in signal is there?

Thanks,
Nigel Goodwin

You need a Sky HD box and a working FTV card.

Or a suitable CAM and Sky FTV card or an Openbox S9 and Sky FTV card. Sky box would be easiest and maybe the cheapest solution though.

I may be wrong, but if you directly couple the sat and the aerial cable, the D.C. resistance (or lack) of the tv aerial would surely present a closed circuit and short the LNB power supply ?

Please igonre if I'm talking borrocks..

You are a bit wrong , you don't just connect them together you use a UHF/Sat diplexer at one end to combine the satellite and uhf feed and another at the remote end to split them out again - these pass dc and ac control signals to the lnb only. . Provided you have reasonable signal levels there's no loss of quality only signal level. A diplexer insertion loss is usually a bit less than 2.0dB. In theory 1.5dB is possible.
