Strange bringing this thread back after 4 months. I think Steve being forced (allegedly?) to take calls has helped the situation. I don't recall hearing chugger or blue badge stories for a while.

The Vallen certainly knows which side his bread is buttocked on. I'm amazed at his total change of direction. His being forced to take calls and all the other mandatory changes has made him somewhat less objectionable. But only just!!

Please feel free to post a pic of your good self when you reach the BIG FIFTY.

I used to listen to Steve regulary back in the 90s (via Sky), especially on a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning when Eric Wiltshire was on with the tech spot.

I recall one night they were caught out by a hoaxer and announced the death of Johnnie Walker (who was ill with cancer at the time)

What timeslot is Steve on now?

Steve Allen's hours have been reduced, lately. Gone is his Sunday morning show and now he's left with his 5am-7am Mon-Fri programme and of course his terrible celebrity interviews called 'In Conversation With', or something like that.
Simply dreadful. His morning buddies have all been banned into obscurity and he's now been told by new management to accept phone calls (no doubt highly selected ones, at that).

Steves backed up on dreadful, everyone is stupid now. One (very bored) day I will attempt to count the amounts of stupids in a show, I think I will need a very large calculator.

I have a strained back at the moment and have been waking up early, (unfortunately) and have therefore tuned in to Mr Allen this morning only to find he was discussing one of his favourites i.e. giving up smoking which is an admirable subject for him, of course having given up the cancer stick some years ago but rather too late, perhaps, for him considering all his attendant problems.
However this is hardly scintillating radio is it and makes rather dull listening? Fortunately I was able to descend into sleep again and leave all those virtuous people, phoning in, to deaf ears.

He was very good when he had a 4 hour overnight show, there was room to breathe. Now, he has to cram that 4 hours of bitterness and bitching into just 2 hours. It doesn't work and he sounds all the worse for it.

Sadly he seems to be rapidly approaching "Smashy and Nicey graveyard shift" territory.

Now if that isn't good enough show content for a Sony, what is!

More Alan Partridge IMHO. Fabulous car crash radio. Shame he's taking calls; now it's just plain dull.

Here we are years later and Steve Allen is still waffling cringe-making, dogmatic, boring and self-obsessed nonsense.
So much for 'London's Biggest Conversation' - did that include Mr Allen talking to himself for 2 1/2 hours?
Nobody wants to phone in.
In a demented fog he still witters on - Kerry Katona, Wayne Rooney, Vernon Kay, numerous TV presenters and 'celebrities' - 'ghastly/ghastly', 'horrible/horrible', 'waste of space/waste of space' etc etc.
His vitriolic opinions (phoney or genuine) maybe, but did it not occur to him people can make up their own minds.
Steve Allen's TV presenting? Here he is 15 years ago squirming gooey-eyed like Dale Winton's girl-friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJPoH9bbcrM

Hello Jackpot. Look who's back! Still pumping out the same old rubbish about Steve Allen eh? I can't make the wonderful suggestion I made to you before as I got banned, but I'd still take up the offer if I was you.

He's OK in small doses - but then, so is small pox!

If you take him seriously, he's a grim human being. If you take his show with a pinch of salt and interpret what he does as a character or a cultivated schtick, then it's funny in an old, sour pantomime dame way: camp on the verge of being nasty.

Unfortunately, if I listen too long, I start erring on the side of the former rather than the latter.

Great clip that bazbbe, thanks. I have a vhs recording of him doing some entertainment show he used to do back in 2000 for channel 5. Interesting to see how he's weathered the ails of life since then.

Re. his LBC show now. I would say he's also good for the old LBC anecdotes of yesteryear when I listened as teenager. Good too for the old memories of tv comedy charactors such as Queenie Watts. I hadn't heard that name for decades until he came up with it a couple of years ago!

Yes Nosedive, for someone who had charm and kept to guidelines in the 70's and 80's, it is so sad that he's descended into the arrogant, humourless persona of today.
I've looked back on some TV programmes he goes on about ('dreary old bag', 'fat bird', ghastly/ghastly etc) and can't agree.
Somebody said he was funny. If that's funny I'm a box of frogs (his words)!
