I heard a clip of Steve Allen's Saturday Night Live which was heavily focused on West End theatre as well as gigs and movies from 1994 just before the original LBC licence expired. He was bitchy then and making snid remarks about other presenters (not by name) and people he was discussing as part of the show.
The point is, he's used it before and hasn't exactly done him any harm. |

I despair that he is allowed to continue on radio, he's more camp than a camp-site and honestly it's tiresome.
Always saying he's 38 or 39. For someone who remembers horse coal deliveries and Corona at 1/10 (1 shilling & 10 pence) clearly he's in his 60's (wikipedia says 59) whatever he's well past his sell by date. |

All very different, all funny to a point. The clever ones know when to give it a rest. |

I don't think being camp should be a bar from anyone being on the radio, it depends what you do with it. Steve goes for the bitchy old queen angle. Richard Arnold did endless comments about mincing down Old Compton Street in a kitten heel, and his predecessor Cristo also did camp but more along the lines of knowing every thing there is to know about Kylie.
All very different, all funny to a point. The clever ones know when to give it a rest. It's just that it can be "done to death" and SA is a perfect example of that. It's an act and it's gone too far. |

The fact that we're all on DS reading and discussing him clearly shows that he's doing something right - even if it is car crash listening.
Having said that, about 98.8% of his pronouncements could be chopped up and played out from a cartwall every day and we'd all be non the wiser. |

BBC London late night phone-ins used to be a joy but since Big George Webley's passing and BBC cutbacks their late phone-ins are sadly no more (as 5 Live).. Returning to LBC I found SA replaying the same old from 2 years ago. |

Taking over the vacant Ian Dale Sunday Show?
The only thing that makes me think not though is now Steve is getting on a bit does he really want to be doing 6 days a week again ? The 5 -7 also sounds quite believable but I'm not sure LBC would want to get rid of The Morning News as now it wants to be seen as a serious news station/5live alternative it's bang on what it should be doing. |

Now thats not a bad shout, as the calls made him loose listeners and the audience also increased when the guests went so i can't see LBC management wanting to bring them back, it also makes the show far cheaper to produce so unless there doing something different with the guests this doesn't sound a bad shout.

I suppose it depends how easily amused you are. I get the impression from texts referring to it that it keeps his fans in stitches!

Did anyone else hear him being absolutely vile this morning to a texter who dared to suggest that diabetes (type 2) is preventable by a healthy diet? Sometimes I wonder if anyone in management at LBC actually listens to his show.

yup i heard it, woke up to hear the weather and travel, both were clear so switched it off and went back to sleep. thought it summed him up, one minute warning people to watch what they eat and exercise and the next saying it didnt matter. i am sure he will blame it on his sugar levels

Those "In Conversation with...... series" are largely an embarrassment to listen to, in the main and for that reason steer well clear of them.
Can't really stand luvvies and the way they compare and contrast their activities, especially when Vallen interjects the interviews with his own anecdotes and life experiences notwithstanding though, he is "In the business" of course. |

The subject of this thread: Steve allen lbc is he all that?
Well clearly he isn't much because everybody he's character assassinated for decades have continued on their merry way or have gone on to brilliant careers. Where's Steve Allen after 35 years? Still dribbling into an LBC microphone!. |

Steve Allen tells us that Greg Wallace is a 'Creepy fat old man' yet Steve Allen is 10 1/2 years older! (creepy and fat are down to judgement).
