Now now Adam, I care about the Dr Who unveiling! I must admit I am finding him a breath of fresh air in amongst the same old presenters whinging on about Referendum and Trump.

He slagged off Loose Women panellists and people who brought out diet books then he interviewed Nadia Sawalha who is a LW panellist and brought out a diet book. He also interviewed Ruth Langsford and seems to love her but he is always going on about Eamonn Holmes. I wonder if Ruth knows!

I don't mind Allen in short doses, but grows tiresome if you listen to him for a full week. To paraphrase that quote about Churchill, he's spent the best years of his life discussing people he couldn't care less about.

If you've never heard Steve Allen before, you could be forgiven for enjoying his show for the first few weeks. After that, you'll have heard it all before and get fed up with his repetitive, boring ramblings. There are a number of pet topics he keeps coming back to:

- Christmas - how he's going to have a lavish one with all the trimmings, all the posh food etc. The problem is that he starts being like this in the middle of summer and by November he's like a silly little child about it.

- His trips for food at Marks and Spencer.

- Certain celebrity targets like 'Cheryl SpagBol' as he calls her (why?) and others. If he doesn't care about them, why does he keep talking about them.

He also likes us to think he's got this luxurious lifestyle, way out of the reach of the vast majority of his listeners. I suspect that behind it all is a sad, lonely, highly materialistic man.

and slagging off presenters who bring out 'Lose Weight' DVD's but then goes on to praise Davina Mcall for hers when doing an 'In Conversation'

Steve is a highly accomplished broadcaster, hugely popular on 7 mornings a week (ok 1 is pre recorded but he needs a day off as well) he is obviously a loyal employee outliving on and off air many other presenters at LBC. where could he take his style of show ?? nowhere, what other radio station could employ him on a daily basis maybe BBC London but I don't believe he is ready to hang up his cans yet or indeed should.
But I do find him rather grating and sadly occasionally change channels either to music or Radio4.
I was thinking who would replace him with a similar show and really found it quite difficult to think of someone capable of doing 3 hours without phone call interaction.
my immediate idea was Danny Baker ????

thoughts and comments???

A five year old thread resurrected to say the same old stuff that was already said in it five years ago... throughout all of which, Steve Allen has remained on air ending up with a larger audience, more hours on air and (presumably) a bigger income.

How have your last five years been?

It's also interesting to look back through old threads to see which posters ended up being banned for saying unacceptable things about other human beings whilst hidden behind a micr- sorry, I mean computer keyboard...

Subject to outdated RAJAR. Just how accurate are those surveys?

Ask a radio presenter and they just can't explain it or just give you a load of bull spinning the current company P.R line.

At 4am, a majority of the population are asleep! Also, he hardly has any competition does he? Still a sad act.

He is now the very very worst presenter on radio.

So which is it, that he has a big audience because there's no competition, or he has no audience because Rajar are wrong?

The majority of people don't listen to any one radio show, but Steve Allen is the biggest show at that time, and gets the second biggest peak on the entire station. That's official. You can put on your tin hat and boil up whatever conspiracy theory you like, but his official figures are higher now than when this thread started, he's on more hours and probably earns more money. No one cares what you think of Rajar: They are the official figures and dictate who gets hired, fired and gets paid what.

Steve Allen has earned hundreds of thousands of pounds in the last five years of this thread whilst some other people have been up moaning about him on the Internet at 3am. I wonder what their income's been like over those years? I suspect many of them have no job at all.

And if so few people listen, how come he gets talked about so much more than anyone else on this radio forum and gets a flood of texts and emails every day?

You don't like Steve Allen. That's all there is to it.

I haven't listened to him in years.

Well this is DS, and it wouldn't surprise me that quite a few of the armchair experts aren't even dressed by 10am let alone out doing something productive.

It's always a 6am bad taxi journey for me when the driver puts Steve Allen on. To me he seems unnecessarily waspish and the whole thing just comes across as mean-spirited without the humour to back it up. But as people above have pointed out, he's clearly very popular and established at the station, so he's doing something right.

He's brilliant and engages with the listeners. Personally he's true most celebrities are up themselves. Some of the Royals he mentions are a disgrace to the crown. He sees it has it is and personally the papers are telling as it is too. Keep up the good work Steve 😉

Plus no one is forced to listen to LBC when he's on.

I like Steve in small doses and think he's an extremely talented broadcaster - there's no calls, he's essentially riffing for several hours at a time at an hour when I can barely get out of bed.

I've never listened to a whole show - there are points where he just gets a little too nasty for me, or goes into a subject for an extended period of time that I have no interest in. But when I'm on an extremely early shift it's a little treat to have a bit of a listen in before blaring very loud music at myself to try and wake me up.

I've been listening to him recently and find him really funny. I like the fact that he says what he thinks about certain 'celebrities' who are up themselves and doesn't care what anyone thinks.
