Daryl Hannah is a devout vegetarian so in the movie Splash where she devours a lobster with her bare hands, the lobster 'meat' was in fact mashed potato.......

A bit of naff trivia I know but I like Splash

That reminds me...

The huge set for the submarine pen was designed by Bond stalwart Ken Adam. Problem was, once built, it was proving near impossible to light correctly. So Ken snuck an old friend onto the set on a non-filming day, who went about arranging the lights to make the set suitable for filming. A certain Mr Kubrick.

In Aliens the role of Cpl Hicks was originally played by James Remar . Mcheal Biehn replaced him a week into filming due to a falling out with James Cameron.

Jean Claude Van Damme was the original actor in the predator suit in Predator ...but he was fired and replaced after 2 days filming.

Renny Harlin appears in the film 'Deep Blue Sea' as a cast character, although very briefly.

Some of the scenes in the film are filmed in a water pen, which is so large it is classed as 'open water'.

The Naked Gun films were based on a series called 'Police Squad', which was scrapped for TV viewing after only 4 episodes were transmitted (even though 6 episodes were in fact made).

Leslie Nielson had never intended to go into comedy acting, but fell into the role.

Ridley Scott's director's cut of the film Alien is actually shorter than the original version.

Bruce Willis was a barman at one time, hence the line in the film Die Hard, 'He could be a f*cking bartender, for all you know'.

In the extended version of 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly', the actor impersonating Lee Van Cleef (who had since passed away), sounds more realistic than Clint Eastwood's and Eli Wallach's voice-overs of some of the missing scenes.

It is rumoured that Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie had real sex in Don't Look Now.

Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze couldn't abide each other on the set of Dirty Dancing, which makes her meltdown on DWTS last year seem rather odd.

Apologies to those who already knew this.

In "The Terminator" the date that cancels on Sarah Connor and leaves the message on her phone answering machine was voiced by director James Cameron.

Andi Peters is in Toy Story 2, he voices the baggage handler at the end who says "Hold it! There's a couple more bags coming from the terminal!"

When filming "Aliens" in the UK, James Cameron became increasingly frustrated with regard to how the British crew would take numerous daily tea breaks and be extremely militant with regards to their working hours and conditions, which the maverick Canadian couldn't get used to.

In the film 'Alien versus Predator' various 'weird' items to do with the film were sent to the main filming location, i.e. Prague, but none were confiscated by customs except for the KY jelly intended to be used on the Aliens.

Paul W. S. Anderson's explanation for this is that British customs may have thought the jelly was to be used for the sex industry in Prague.

The Shawshank Redemption trivia:

The film barely made a profit at the box office. Many at the time considered the film to be a flop.

Kevin Costner turned down the role of 'Andy'. He later said this was one of his biggest regrets.

Stephen King sold the film rights for his short story for a dollar.

The film didn't win a single oscar.

I'm surprised about that. I though it was more. It's similar to Fawlty Towers when you realise how few were made for such a classic series.

Andie McDowall's debut acting performance in "Greystoke" was considered so dire, her entire speaking part was re-dubbed by a young Glenn Close...

Talking of GC, the original ending of "Fatal Attraction" had her character commit suicide with a knife that had Michael Douglas' fingerprints on it, leading to his arrest for her murder... this was changed to the current ending after appalling test screening feedback, but there's still a scene where the camera lingers ominously on the knife after MD has held it...

GC's also in "The Big Chill", the story of a group of old college friends brought together by the suicide of a classmate... the suicide victim was played by Kevin Costner, but all his flashback scenes were cut, so all you see of him is a glimpse in a coffin.

Going back a bit, Orson Welles' version of "Othello" includes a scene in a sauna, only because the costumes for that scene hadn't arrived, and performing almost-naked was Welles' solution to not losing a days' filming.

And everybody knows the Michael J. Fox role in "Back To The Future" was played for a few days by Eric Stoltz before they decided he wasn't right for the part...

When the man in charge of continuity watched the final cut of "Escape to Victory" he became clinically depressed and gave up his job, turning to alcohol and drugs as a way out. He simply couldn't believe that he didn't spot that when Pele was fouled by the Germans, his head rolled into the chalk of one of the lines on the pitch, yet in the next scene Pele's head was completely chalk free.

Steve McQueen refused to play the part of Sundance in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid because they wouldn't give him top billing over Paul Newman

Apparently, it was because you can't watch PS while eating a TV dinner, because you'll miss many of the jokes, as they are visual, just like in Naked Gun and Airplane.

All 6 episodes are available on DVD though.

He was fired because he refused to do a stunt saying he would break his legs doing it.

The replacement stunt man broke his legs.

(That's JCVD's story anyhow, not sure if it's actually true)

In the film Top Gun, Tony Scott was sacked more than once during the making of the film, but re-instated.

Ridley Scott's brother, btw.

The weird alien space scenes in 2001: A Space Odyssey were filmed by dropping paint and various chemicals into buckets of water in a disused corset factory

*Factoid courtesy of Ridley Scott's commentary on the DVD
They also used the same idea on Star Trek; The Motion Picture where they showed the engine room of the Enterprise. At the far end the roof was actually lower than normal and they used midgets to make the engine room appear longer

In an episode of Fringe, set on Earth in a parallel universe, there's a shot of the exterior of a cinema which is showing Back To the Future starring Eric Stoltz

Brad Pitts name is actually rhyming slang for a word used to describe his acting ability

And the outdoor set where they filmed the ape-men scenes is now the location of the set for....

...Albert Square in Eastenders.

My favourite is that I'm sure I heard somewhere that all the press packs for the movie Castaway were sent out via DHL, which is odd considering that Tom Hanks worked for Fed-Ex in the movie, you would have thought they would have tied up that contract
