PAYG iPhone?
stuart567

I'm looking to get an iPhone in the next couple of weeks but i don't fancy a contract (never had one anyway) as i doubt i would like having to pay monthly for a long period. I was just wondering, if theres any good deals for PAYG iPhones? I've had a quick look but all seem very expensive.

I would consider getting the 3GS if i had to help keeps costs down but was also wondering if the updates would still be avalible as i know its an older model and how does it compare to the iPhone 4?

Appreciate any help given

To answer your question on updates, Apple has indicated that some of the iOS 5 update features may not be available on the 3GS, so if that matters to you (and it would to me), then the iPhone 4 would be your choice.

Also worth pointing out that if you care about taking photos, the 3GS camera sucks big time. The iPhone 4 camera is a big improvement from that.

Wait a few weeks - as soon as there is a sniff of the iPhone 5, people will be trying to offload their iP4s asap to get the new model. Try CEX, I got mine from there and it was absolutely brand new, untouched, still in the box but a bit cheaper than buying it from Voda direct.

Dumb question for ya! (I'm fairly tech-savy but not really into phones)

I'm looking for something similar, on PAYG, but not an iPhone, more like a Samsung Galaxy, much more affordable!

My question is, how does PAYG work with downloading apps and that? Can I just sling my current PAYG Vodaphone sim into a Galaxy, pay the $1 for a day's internet access, and download what I want? Or is it a bit more complicated / expensive? Thanks.

The cost of your Data is dependent on your provider. I don't know how much you get for a dollar, so don't know how downloading apps will affect your limit. However the question answer would be, Yes! Just download via your internet allowance.

Compared to the 3GS the 4 is fantastic value.
Even if in reality its spec is similar to many top end, non dual core Android models now selling near £150.

With founded rumours of Apple releasing a budget 4 (£200) its certainly best to wait a couple of weeks of you want an iPhone.

OK, thanks. I meant to put £1 rather than $1 btw. Too much internet poker!

Guess I'll have to check with Vodaphone what the limits are, if any.

I wouldn't buy a 3GS now. The iPhone 5 is weeks away and as soon as it arrives going off the previous couple of years there will be a new model of iPhone 4 to replace the 3GS at the same or even (rumoured) cheaper price point
