Magnetic field interference - TV and monitor next to each other

I have a 28-inch widescreen TV and 24-inch widescreen monitor. Both are CRT, and they are stood about 1ft apart due to being key components in my ludicrously complicated self-made home entertainment system.

Unfortunately, nice though this may sound, the TV is exhibiting a coloured area at the side nearest the monitor. This worsens and improves depending on how long each has been on and various other things, but it's there quite a lot and often quite badly.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can 'shield' these two devices from each other?

The most feasible I've heard so far - but which I would appreciate comments as to the likelihood of success or failure of - is to get sheets of steel mesh, stick it to the sides of the displays, then connect it with a wire to the earth pin of each display's mains plug.

Does anyone have any other advice, or think this would not work? Thanks in advance...

Hmm.. i'm not sure that will work..

One word of warning.. if you leave them too close for too long you gcould really muck up your screens, and will need a strong degausser to fix it..

Hrm. They need to be near each other as I use them for video editing with the TV used as a preview screen (I have a Matrox Parhelia graphics card in there). So many graphics cards have TV-out now - what do they expect people to do if not position a TV near a monitor? (I know a TFT monitor would solve this but I thoroughly dislike them!)

Does anyone else have a TV near a monitor? Have you worked around any interference successfully? It sounds like I need to know even more urgently than I feared

best thing I can suggest is to gradually more them apart untill the problem stops they should not need 2 be too far apart 2foot max and they are large screens after all so should not be to much of a problem.

As to what the manufactures expect , apart from placing a TV and monitor close together, I would have thought my senario was more comon where I have a 20 foot Svideo lead from my computer to my projector

I think it may vary from manuafacturer.. some screens may be sheilded some not..

If the speakers are sheilded, theres normally no point in sheilding the screen..
