Can you keep your number when going from Pay Monthly to Pay As You Go?
I have had my current mobile phone number since about 1997 from the BT Cellnet days. I was a customer of BT Cellnet/O2 continuously as a Pay Monthly subscriber until August 2010. I then switched to Orange as O2 didn't give me any incentive to stay and I knew someone who worked at Orange so I got a Friends and Family deal.
I am currently on an 18 month contract which will be expiring early next year. I am probably going to move to 3 as I haven't been impressed by Orange either with their data coverage or their customer service. If I get a PAYG SIM from 3, am I able to port my number over from Orange to them as I did from O2 to Orange? Or can you only do this with Pay Monthly? Thanks. |

Yes you will be able to port your number to pay as you go on 3.
The only time you can't port (usually) is if you want to port a contract number into a contract account on the same network. |

Thanks. Good to know.
So when it comes to leaving, I would just get my PAC number as normal, get a PAYG SIM from 3 and then ring up 3 and ask them to transfer it over? |

Don't know if they still do but there was a time when 3 would give you £10 extra credit if you port your number into pay as you go

If your not happy with Oranges data coverage, you going to be less happy with 3s.

Oh really? I thought that was 3's selling point?!
I think all the companies have pretty poor/average customer service |

I am pretty sure there was a thread on here a while back, where quite a few people were saying that 3 had pretty bad coverage of all the networks. Vodafone was the best.
I think all the companies have pretty poor/average customer service Mark

I can't fault 3's coverage. I travel round the UK with my job and its the only network that I can almost always guarantee a signal with. I found it miles better than Orange, O2 and T-Mobile and on a par with Vodafone... only much quicker than Vodafone. Customer Service is hit or miss with any network depending on who you get thorough to!
