Why Do People Dislike Blackberrys?

Personally, I reckon Blackberries are easier to use cos of the proper keyboard but they lose out again cos of the smaller screen.
I know it's a cliché but making phone-calls is only about 10% of what I do with my iPhone.
The rest of it is for entertainment (comics, ebooks, movies, TV as well as music) and for storing reference documents and calculation spreadsheets for work so, in the end, a big screen is gonna trump all else for me.

I suppose my ideal phone would be summat with a screen the size of an iPhone but with a slide-down keyboard for typing on.

I think as a phone blackberrys are much better, i prefer actual buttons when im texting as touch screen texting can be a right pain. But iphones win with the apps.

So i got an ipod touch and a blackberry torch so i have the best of both worlds

The Droid/Milestone phones have a slide out keyboard. My wife got one a few years ago because she didn't think she'd like the touchscreen keyboard. But then she installed Swype and never used the physical keyboard. After her 2 year contract was up, she switched to a phone without the physical keyboard.

Swype is by far the easiest and quickest keyboard solution for phones.

Because theyre for chavs.

Most people only like them for BBM which i find absolutely pointless. Install Whatsapp or MSN on your phone then you can message folk with any phone!!

Oh and i dislike the idea of having to paying extra to use a blackberry.

They are now forever tainted with the association of looters/rioters. Guess cos they are cheaper than iPhones more chavs would own one. I reckon it'll suffer slightly from the "Burberry" effect.

surely, unlike an iphone, they just ain't the subject of enough envy
for anyone to summon up the energy to dislike them

Are you a drug dealer? Why do you have two phones?

Erm, an iPod Touch isn't a phone.

Fair enough. I tend to steer clear of Apple.

Why do i hate Blackberry?

They look ugly, they are unreliable, they are style over substance, and my ex did nothing all day but sit on her ass on her couch with her blackberry in her hand on BBM.

I remember the days when only the rich and famous had a Blackberry. Now every Tom, Dick and Harry has one.

It's because they are still outdated. The internet experience on them is lackluster, the Apps are rubbish [in comparison to iOS/Android], the OS is clunky and old fashioned - and then there is the fact that you have to pay to use email!

Everybody I see thesedays either seems to have an iPhone 4 or a Blackberry Curve. Yes, the iPhone is good but it's old news now. As for the Curve... well, I wouldn't even waste my money on one.

But I use my phone constantly.. playing games, watching Netflix, reading email, etc.. so I do plug it in when I go to bed.”

Which phone do you use? 14 days is pretty good. I am looking for something like this (but is still good for web-browsing when I need it). Heck, I'd even settle for 7 days. My crappy phone (a Nokia 5230) only seems to manage 4-5 days between charges and I don't even use it that much (Maybe 30 mins of calls per week plus texting, emailing and web-browsing), but I've had phones before that have gone nearly two weeks.
The battery technology is not keeping up with the power requirements.

Blackberry, similarly with Apple, they have their following and their own flock of sheep. Blackberrys and iPhones are everywhere and the Blackberry and iSheep people constantly think they have the 'better' product or that there's is worth more because of the brand name! If you own an iPhone it does not mean you have more money than someone with a Blackberry and vice verssa. You buy a product to suit your needs and likes, but it appears that iPhones, particularly are there as a status symbol and just to give the 'owner' of the product an ego boost.

Blackberrys and iPhones/iTouch are too samey and virtually everyone has either one. No individuality whatsoever. People need to stop following trends and buy what they want, whatever brand it is, and realise that 'what's in fashion' is often old, overpriced tech!”

Most people who have BlackBerry's have them for business reasons, as I do. It has nothing to do with being a sheep, or following trends, or any other reason you've mentioned.

For what they were originally designed for, business use, they are very good.

Again, that is because they were designed primarily for business use, and as someone who does use one for business, who cares about the lack of "Apps"? Especially as @ 99% of them on the iPhone or Android platforms seem to be for wasting time and money, and not to provide anything practical.

Quite right. Both Iphones and Android have their advantages but for a business device I would always choose Blackberry. For work I don't care how well it plays Angry Birds, plays HD video or that I can get a million pointless apps. All I want is a good batter life, rock solid Enterprise email and a few core apps.

I have a HTC for personal use and it's a great phone but I wouldn't want to use it for work as the battery life is poor and while the email is good, isn't not as good as Blackberry. My work phone is mostly used as a mobile email device and for that I prefer a proper keyboard.

Maybe RIM should have stopped in the business market and didn't try to sell their phones as consumer devices.

I have a Blackberry Torch for work. Can't stand it. Composing emails is infinitely easier on my iPhone. Blackberry battery is much better though...or maybe that's because I barely use it...

I had a curve which I liked but paying the £5 a month BB bolt on on top of my usual top up soon added up. I've since switched to HTC which I much prefer if I'm honest. Nothing wrong as such with blackberry its just not for me.

The Virgin £10 contract has a lot to do with it!

The Curve with 250txts for £10pm, (using BBM isn't extra) with free phone etc makes a hell of a difference. My daughter has a San Fran and although its great I find my BB much easier to use, holds the charge for at least 2 days of moderate use and imho is easier to type on a proper qwerty key pad than a touchscreen.

I heard a woman at work today saying that she hadn't figured out her Android HTC phone today and she has had it for months, I rarely hear the same said for BB's, they are much easier to use, possibly due to the lack of "additional features" that most people won't use a great deal.

The OS altho it has its quirks is much better than my old Nokia 5530 Symbian and there is more available for it.

Not keen on the Torch, would happily upgrade to the 9300 if I could. (£13pm from Virgin currently)

Most of my friends have Blackberry's and all they do is constantly complain about BBM not working or that their Blackberry has broken or something doesn't work properly and on more than one occassion and all of them have experienced some sort of problem with their Blackberry. They seem like they are not made/designed properly :S Its definetely one brand of mobile phone I would never recommend under any circumstances the amount of problems people have with them is ridiculous. I have a HTC Sensation And most of my friends are now switching...

The Blackberry Curve is seen as quite an affordable smart phone these days that comes in a variety of truly hideous colours. I guess it does everything a person who isn't really into gadgets would want from their phone; from e mail, web browsing and RIM has made the curve a social network giant for when on the move.

In addition, some people argue that the keyboard is the best found on any phone. My opinion? It's as useless as a bull in a china shop. Some of my friends also have the phone and the perception I get is that for the first few months you think your Blackberry is the bees knees, then you begin to hate it. After a year, it breaks.

I'm very happy with my iphone that is reliable, and is regally has updates available from Apple. This is something that RIM fail to offer with the ever so popular curve.

Back in the early days I have always perceived Blackberry's are for businessmen. And in recent years the introduction of BBM has attracted alot of the young audiences when they can send messages for free (probably their only selling point). Never liked the looks of Blackberry's and never considered owning one either.

I'm an iPhone 4 owner and previously owned an iPhone 3G. I am certainly not an iSheep and the iPhone is the first ever product I have purchased from Apple. My mobile phone history started off with Nokia when they really made great phones then I moved over to Sony Ericsson for their styles.

I never went for the original iPhone 2G as I believe I wanted one with 3G capability but purchased the 3G when it first came out and it was the best phone I have ever owned by miles. Missed the 3GS as basically the same as the 3G but got the iPhone 4. Still to this day iPhone is an excellent product whether it has an Apple badge or not.

In my mindset I still don't think LG or Samsung make good phones and I will still not buy their phones but will certainly buy their TVs.

So not everyone follow the crowd. My iPhone remains the only Apple product that I have. I don't have an iPod, iPad, iMac or any other things starting with an i. Those who moan at people owning an Apple product really is pathetic.

Well i agree about LG, but not Samsung considering they have made the top selling phone just now, the Galaxy S2 which is pretty much perceived as the best phone available at this moment.

Having to pay for email is down to the operators trying to cash in on the devices - its not necessarily the fault of the BB itself.

The curve is fine, sure the internet isn't great on it, but the keyboard makes up for the smaller screen, its got excellent voice quality and indecently good battery life.

Favourite quote recently read on engadget :

LG are known for making useless phones; be that the basic kind or the smart phone type. Before I owned a smart phone, I had the LG cookie. It lasted 2 months before I wanted to hit it against a brick wall. It was seriously pathetic.

BBM for the youth is probably why Blackberry sells so well with the likes of my age group. With this system coming into the iPhone with IOS5, the difference between Apple and Blackberry will be very small when it comes to social networking...

I used to have an LG Cookie was a great little phone only reason I got rid of it was because I broke it by accident.

Blackberry's a good little phones for those who don't feel the need to have pointless apps. Like another poster said apps on the iPhone are of no value really and are just for gimmick cash in value that doesn't offer anything or help you in anyway. Reason why I like my BB Curve is because there are various apps for communication. So if I cant get hold of someone by phone or text I know that I can reach them either on BBM, Ping, Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter or send them an email straight from my phone. Great! just what I want.
