We had to get Brown on a new contract, can't let him go on a free at the end of the season.

Lausanne manager calls on the Swiss Football League to void the recent 1-1 draw between them and Sion and award Lausanne a 3-0 win because of the ineligible players.

Recent history shows this isn't the first time Sion have ignored the rules. They've previously been deducted points for fielding ineligible players.

In 2003 they failed to obtain an SFL license for the Swiss Premier league and were relegated.

In 2004 they were refused entry into the Swiss PL for failing to meet licensing requirements.

That's Lucerne they drew 1-1 with, they beat Lausanne 2-0 at the weekend.

One big problem we could face is that the draw for the group stage is on the 26th and CAS say it is unlikely they will have made a decision before the end of August. Using current pot seedings we are Pot 2 and Sion would be Pot 4 so if Sion were to put us out and CAS were later to uphold the ban then the complete draw would have to be redone.

Charlie Mulgrew ruled out of the Sion game.

Meanwhile B7 can confirm that the Sion transfer ban was specifically set at two entire transfer windows which came into effect from the date of the appeal ruling in June 2010. (I believe it was a week after the Swiss window opened)

I think CAS will be ruling in FIFA's favour after originally upholding the two windows punishment.

Reminds me of the time my cousin was over visiting from Canada and was going to visit his aunt and uncle on the other side of the family who lived in North Berwick.

He gets to Waverley and doesn't see a train to North Berwick on the departures board for about an hour but the Inter City for London was leaving 5 minutes later which called at Berwick so he jumped on that thinking they must be close and he could walk or get a taxi and it would still be quicker than waiting for the next train.

I believe the trophy count is 5-5, and we've won a trophy this century.

As far as I can gather there's a few proper journalists who have been all over it and found there is no story.

It its worth Uefa clarifying the rule though.

As far as I'm aware journos have only been in contact with the SFA.

Maribor make it official:

“UEFA can confirm that the club NK Maribor has sent a protest to UEFA following the UEFA Europa League Play-off match NK Maribor vs Rangers FC played on*18 August 2011*in Maribor. The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with this protest in due course.”

Maribor have submitted a complaint to UEFA:

I think it hinges on whether or not in order to play for a club, you have to be an employee (and hence require a work permit).
