A Fifth of Beethoven - Walter Murphy takes it from classical to disco;
I Will Always Love You goes from country to pop ballad between Dolly Parton & Whitney Houston;
The Greatest Love of All went from jazz to pop ballad between George Benson & Whitney;
American Pie switches from folk to pop between Don McLean & Madonna - eurgh!

Let's agree to agree about Donna Summer and agree to disagree about Richard Harris. I love his version.

Paul Anka covered smellls like a teen spirt by Nirvana and love cats by The Cure and loads more of his 'rock swings' album”

Bit in bold: Came on this thread specifically to mention that abomination of a cover. Then again, I've always thought Wonderwall was an overrated track anyway.

Umbrella - Baseballs

The Rihanna song performed in the style of fifties rock 'n' roll. Hate the original, absolutely love this cover.

The same song but totally different genres.”

Almost true except Manson's version of Tainted Love was more mainstream than dark tbh. Also his friend Tarrie B and her metal band called My Ruindid a cover which is much better.

DEVO - 'Satisfaction'. So far removed from The stones it is good
Tori Amos does 'Smells like Teen spirit'. One of Nirvana's worst songs and hated by cobain. I like Tori Amos. She is a musician. Up there with Kate Bush. However don't try to cover songs that are not worth covering.

John Coltrane transformed "My Favourite Things" (from the "The Sound Of Music") into a Jazz classic.

The R&B and hip-hop group Big Brovas also transformed the song, but unlike Coltrane, not in a good way.

Shakin' Stevens changed "This Ol' House", a fifties song that wasn't rock 'n' roll into an updated eighties version of fifties rock 'n' roll.

"Louie Louie" started life as a Doo-wop song in the fifties when originally recorded by Richard Berry. A Garage Rock cover by the Kingsmen was a massive American hit in the sixties, while in the seventies Toots and the Maytals recorded a tremendous Reggae version and Motorhead gave it the Heavy Metal treatment.
