Why was the 4S a "joke product"?
Why does the next iPhone "have to be a serious gamechanger to save Apple from disaster"? What disaster? Have you seen Apple's sales figures, its profits, its growth (see my previous post). It's going up and up, no sign of disaster.[Plus despite its dominance of the smartphone market - which was
never owned by Apple - Android shows no signs of making a serious dent in the lucrative tablet market]
The 4S sold amazingly well, and quickly became Apple's fastest selling ("joke") product...
How are the upgrades getting smaller? Was the 4S a smaller upgrade than the 3GS? No... Full redesigns come every other model (e.g. 3GS to 4). People hyped things up based on nonsense reports about a tapered iPhone 5 etc., so got disappointed when it inevitably and predictably was simply an "S" upgrade with a spec. bump. And even so, the 4S sold (& continues to sell) extremely well, even though it wasn't a re-design.
The iOS5 Notification Centre was based upon a Jailbreak-only notification system... Apple even hired the person who wrote it.
Sure, some bits of iOS seem similar to other OSes...and vice versa...they do
all seem to take... inspiration... from each other.
As for all the lawsuits... I agree that they're stupid. But I don't think it was realisation that "it was another Windows vs. Mac scenario"... it seemed to stem from Jobs' hatred of Android and how he perceived it to be an iOS rip-off (all that stuff from the bio about his anger at Android and how he wanted to "destroy it"...it wasn't fear of Android).
Oh, and they are
all doing it... it's hardly just Apple instigating lawsuits...
This is from last August. It's probably even more of a mess now...
