Perfect bedroom set up
teamnoodle

Hi, Just wondering if you guys can give me a little advice about designing a perfect PVR for my bedroom. I will be moving into a room in a couple of weeks. I have ordered a set top box from NTL to go in my room, also broadband and I will also have a LAN throughout the house.

I have a Hauppauge pvr 350 in my computer with a redrat 3 ir device and originally was going to use the showshifter software and digiguide to schedule my recordings, plug the NTL set top box into the TV Tuner Card.

For Display I was thinking of buying a Relisys 1720 17" Widescreen with TV Tuner, to mount on the wall.

Now my dilemma is what would be better, plugging the stb into the tv tuner card, or the display?

I don't mind having the computer running all the time, as I will be working on it a lot, but to get better/simpler recordings, which one would be the best.

Does anyone suggest a different set up?
I have a couple of weeks to get the monitor and anything else required, but won't be able to test it until i move in.

Thanks and hope you can help.

stb has to go to the display surely.

If your card has an s-video out then there must be some loss in the conversion from rgb to s-video, and that's assuming that the card has rgb in.

ok, but how can i set it up to schedule, i will need an input to the tuner card. We have opted for sky intsead, sky+ in the living room, set top box in my bedroom. I understand that plugging in the stb would be better quality, but what about sheduling?

Thanks for helping me.

Well i don't know what input the card has. if it has rgb then you should probably go via the tv card to the display.

but if it's composite then you can just use the second output from the box.

I actually meant 256kbps.
