Are Radio 1 snubbing The Sugababes?

Think about it, this is an act that has been around for 10 years plus in some form or another and radio one is pretty "new music"and youth focussed. How many other acts that have been about that long are on heavy radio 1 rotation.

Is it not the case that when you've been about for more than a decade you generally become a radio 2 act as your fan base matures?

yep looks like they are definatly being snubbed! which is a shame...
though to be honest, im 24, yet i feel completely out of touch with radio 1, i dont know what half the stuff is on the playlist! its all so random, like somthing you either hear in a pub during 'live music night', or on pirate radio !

I honestly don't think they're being snubbed. This is just a comeback buzz single. It doesn't have to be a smash! Is there any release date for the album yet??No.That means that 'Freedom' is not the lead single, so no need for panic. As another member pointed out, this single didn't even cost anything to the label or the Sugababes themselves. It was released to create anticipation for the actual lead single and to partly re-introduce them to the UK audience and it's doing its job fine

Jade tweeted earlier saying they were at Radio 1, did anyone listen?

Radio 1's playlist has always been political.

I don't understand how Radio 1 can playlist tracks like Invisible by Skylar Grey and Gucci Gucci by Kreayshawn but not support homegrown artists like the Sugababes.

If it's not playlisted next week, then yeah, maybe a problem.

What utter b******. I know you probably think it's "cool" to jump on the Radio 1-bashing bandwagon, but if you actually had a clue what you're trying to talk about, you'd know that they constantly play chart pop music every hour during daytimes.

Don't be so bitter just because Radio 1 aren't currently playing a new song from a well-known pop act or two. Not that I'm a fan of their playlist at all, but they can't pander to every chart fan 100% of the time. Anyway, they A-listed all the singles from the Sugababes' last album (and pretty much everything they released in the past too)

thanks for that.

i love the song and think they are just as great in this new line up as ever, and look forward to hearing what they have next to offer

i dont listen to radio 1, my dad listens and enjoys that station more than i do! which says it all really
but i know how important the station can be for some artists to crack the top 10. which is a shame really

That's right, totally ignore the fact that Radio 1 A-listed all of the 3 singles from Sweet 7. It's not their fault no-one liked that album.

This is true, can't stand the daytime shows, after 7 pm it does improve, for me anyway.

I often wonder why we have no Saturday morning TV shows anymore. How did the likes of Live & Kicking, SM.TV/CD:UK all die out???

I think its really harmed the music charts.

The point still stands that Radio 1 stuck by them throughout that album. People are just looking for a scapegoat to blame for the Sugababes fall in popularity

^i haven't heard 'Wack' since the 90's!

Good pop songs never seem to get supported. Nicola Roberts seems to have been snubbed also.

I don't think they're being snubbed. They are not radio 1 favorites, because they're not a brand new band (as a name and a brand), but they will get playlisted after all. There's only a select group of artists that get playlisted 3-4 weeks ahead of the release, so even if they get playlisted next week, there will still be 2 weeks before 'Freedom' is out, which doesn't look like snubbing.

I say "wack" for rap songs (Soulja Boy and co's).Is that bad and dated too?

There is an episode of Friends where Joey tries to show he can still pass for 19 by wearing baggy trousers and saying "Wack" lots, the joke being that joey is acctually 30 and a bit out of touch with the "yoof of today"

I think that episode was from about 10 or 15 years ago.

Yes, I remember that one!It was definetely better than Chandler's effort to connect with the youth when he had that sneakers advert

So, does that mean that I should write off the word "wack" for rap music too?I ususally say "attrocious" or "abomination" for other genres, but I can't imagine anything else but "wack" to describe an awful rap song.I think it's still being used for that genre tbh.

B!tch step down. wtf are you on about "I know you probably think it's "cool" to jump on the Radio 1-bashing bandwagon" GET-A-GRIP you defender of sh!t. I'm not even a huge fan of the Sugababes, I just think the playlist is a load of sh!t the majority of the time.

If they're really getting snubbed (I doubt it; they have 3 more weeks to get airplay and TV rotation), I think it's because they still haven't cemented an image. The Sugababes 2.0 (the most overall successful lineup) looked strict, bitchy and kind of apathetic and that's why they were successful, because they were unconventional.4.0 can be polite and sweet in interviews, which is necessary, but they need to look different on stage.Smiling on T4 and yelling "Come on" is so anti-Sugababes and while I love their new attitude, if they tried to get some 2.0 flavour in there, then all these people calling them "Sugarfakes", a tribute band and has-beens may hush...
