I do not have one, haven't had one since my very first mobile phone 10 years ago. When I put it in my pocket, I do not put anything else there and I clean the screen regularly with a microfibre cloth.

3 years of iPhone without one and no damage....Now nothing on my SGS2. Of course, if you are the sort of numpty who puts the phone in the pocket with keys and change or chucks it in a handbag then maybe you might need protecting (mainly from yourself I would think)...

the s2 has gorilla glass like iphone 4 but i dare not use screen protectors on my iphone, id be gutted if i scratched it, i found using branded ones like gear4 to work a lot better than ebay ones plus the branded ones are scratch resistant unlike the charlie wanger ones off ebay!!

If your phone has a gorilla glass display, thats considerably stronger and more resistant to scratches than the rest of the phone.

I've seen people take strong/sharp knives to gorilla glass, and it doesn't even get a scratch. Very, very impressive.

I have an invisiblesheild on my current phone. Completely covers all faces and is completely scratch resistant. Perfect on the occasions it gets chucked in my handbag.

Alot of the screen protectors seem to bubble pretty easily, but I don't know if thats the SP or the person fitting it. I've never had any bubbles in the ones I've bought and my last one lasted the full 18 months I used the phone and that was just a cheapy market stall one.

I got one free with a leather case I bought for my HTC but never bothered with it.

Absolutely necessary. Read the forums just how scratch resistant Gorilla glass is - NOT!! Only takes one scratch and you'll regret not having a protector.
I have bought a packet of ten from Amazon although these are rather soft and themselves show some scuffing after a while. They are from the QBits range I believe but are very easy to apply without bubbles.
However another range from Amazon (five in a pack) are a better plastic and scratch resistant in themselves but seemed harder to apply and get a perfect result but maybe i was less adept a few months ago.
I also have the excellent gel case on my HTC Desire S, as this gives great peripheral protection and feeling of security when holding it. Can't imagine how many time the phone would have slipped out of my large hands without the gel case.

I have never used a screen protector on any of my touch screen phones and have never had a problem.

I have one on my phone and have to assume that the scratches on the protector would have been on the phone if it hadn't been there.

My tip for applying is to use the edge of a credit card to push down the protector as you apply it. Worked nicely for me and avoids bubbles.

And make sure the screen is spotlessly clean before you apply.

Maybe there are grades of gorilla glass, some more gorilla like than others?

I've seen some people take a knife to the screen on the N8, and it didn't show any damage.

Not put a protector on the screen of my N8, and it looks as good as new despite almost 12 months in a pocket that normally leaves most phones looking dead within 6 months.

The body is another matter entirely, thats now dressed in a gelaskin - those things are fantastic, basic protection and barely add any bulk.

I've got one but I don't use it, it just leaves a load of air bubbles no matter how much effort I put into applying it. So far not having one hasn't been a problem for me.

Some phones come with screen covers - they'll normally last me 6-12 months, then I take it off and make do. Can't be doing with faffy covers, tbh.

I have a screen protector but only because it's anti-glare and anti-fingerprint. I wouldn't use one just to protect the screen, in 14 years of using mobiles I've only damaged the screen on one phone, and that was when I accidentally smacked my iPhone 3GS into the floor and it shattered. I don't think any amount of screen protection would have saved it there!

Which make of anti-glare protectors are these?

I use one, but I'm tempted to get rid of it because it seems to scratch easier than the screen itself would, meaning I need to replace it more often which is an absolute pain.

If my phone's screen were to be scratched then I'd feel like dumping it. A bit like getting a scratch in the centre of one's car windscreen. These cannot be removed and require replacement, in the case of a car and so a plastic protector is an unquestionable accessory for me on my phone.

I scratched my iPhone last week
Scratched against the metal bit on my jeans as I put it in my pocket.

Wish I had a protective cover. *sigh*

When I first got a smartphone, I started putting it in the other pocket to avoid the risk of that.

A quid for 10 off eBay. A small price to pay.

Vital. I dropped my phone last week and got a scratch on the screen cover. Would have been on the screen itself if I hadn't had a cover.

You can't say that, because the covers are more likely to be scratched than the screens themselves.

Not worth the risk really tho.

I have a no-name one from the Far East, but there are similar ones available from Case-Mate and SGP that work great.
