Never subscribed to it but I've always thought of it as a rip-off. But apparently that's because "I'm bitter that they've taken the last spaces that could be used for Freeview", according to its fans. Fingers crossed that they'll face the toilet soon.

Personally I don't think that it is worth £7.99 because most of the programmes are repeats of those already shown on ATT/FTA DTT (eg. nearly everything from the UKTV channels, plus they show adverts which really makes you question the need for a subscription) or are programmes shown a week or so before they are on ATT/FTA DTT (eg. ER on E4). TCM shows old films that I wouldn't be interested in watching and Discovery Home & Leisure isn't my idea of the best TV. Bloomberg, Cartoon Network and Boomerang aren't the best channels ever. The only channel that has any decent original programming is Discovery, but it is at limited times.
Now that I have a compatible box (DTI-2300) I could pay for TUTV but I don't think the £20 connection fee is worth it plus £7.99 a month, when I would probably end up cancelling it. I don't normally reply to the anti-TUTV threads but I thought it was worth posting because I have the option to get it now if I actually wanted to. |

Ist too expensive if all the channels on there were 24 hour channels it would still be too expensive.

I also think the connection fee is a rip off and puts off people from trying tutv.
Further, if you disconnect and want to reconnect, another £20 is due!!!

Well, it's obviously not considered a rip off by the people who've subscribed to it.
Why do we have to go through this ridiculous argument every couple of weeks? If you think it costs too much for what you'd get out of it, don't subscribe. If you don't, do. It's that simple! |

Do we need another pointless thread on this
Could you have not added this to one of the other tutv threads To the original poster, can you define the meaning of rip off? |

It is a rip off.
If they want more customers, they should: * Have the Connection free and the leaving fee should be £20 - not the other way around. * Change the channels. They need KILLER channels not a bunch of UKTV channels. * Lower the costs of the subscription. £8 is daylight robbery. |

How can anyone see £8 as daylight robbery when people pay £14 a month for 2 channels on Sky?! And it's not robbery, as you choose to pay it don't ya. No point grumbling about the cost when you've chosen to have it...

Personally, I took the plunge, and to my suprise, do enjoy TUTV. But I did post on a much earlier thread it should be cheaper. It was real VFM in the school holidays with Cartoon Network/Boomerang. Kept the kids quiet for hours ..... Thanks TUTV.

An online retailer told me that the Top Up TV subscriptions had been more popular than they'd expected it would be, so maybe it's taking off; the question is how many of these people cancel after a month?
Anyone who thinks TUTV is going anywhere soon then don't forget their initial funding was £20m, and even with massive carriage charges (£12m?) they should be able to keep running for over a year whatever happens. |

I hope they do succeed. However, to do that I think they will have to change their channels/hours. With such a small number of channels they are never going to please everyone, but I think the current mix is clearly not ideal.

So then, you declare to the world (literally, for this is an internet forum) that 'top up tv is a rip off' but won't venture arguments of your own to back this up, instead you hope other people will do it for you?So this is irrelevant unfounded prattle against TUTV by angry 15 year old who has saved up and bought an FTA box and is annoyed that he can't get every channel on his EPG number god knows what then? I would post all the reasons why there is nothing wrong with TUTV, but I fear it would be lost on you. |
