Exactly! This is where sky rips you off. If ive been told correctly, you get only 2 pay channels on the Value pack and you pay, £13 a month?

I certainly dont call that good.

Here, Here..........

I agree

TUTV is a BIG RIP OFF

The channels should never have been allowed onto FREEVIEW / DTT.

If TUTV survives as a service then presumably there are people out there who are happy to pay the £8 per month subscription fee.

I personally don't think that TUTV is worth it for me and I haven't actually lost any channels because of it. I actually get more FTA channels now than when I got the freeview box

The only possible argument for it being a "rip-off" is that the number of channels they say you get is misleading because of bandwidth and timeshares.

Time will tell if TUTV is here to stay - People should stop assuming that Freeview = DTT = Every channel has to be free!

Thank you, atlast someone makes a sensible comment

I totally agree that for some people it is not worth the money and for others it is

time will tell, they have got 2 years to make a go of it, if tutv is to close, please start your speculating nearer the 2 year mark

Agree with the last two comments,

A couple of other points that has been raised so far.

Quote:
“ Not worth it for a bunch of UKTV Channels”

Unless your interested in these channels, they offer good programming, and they're not all of the channels, only 3!

Quote:
“ Personally I don't think that it is worth £7.99 because most of the programmes are repeats of those already shown on ATT/FTA DTT”

That's your opinion, of course UKGOLD (or UKTV Gold) has always been a popular channel on SKY. also if people are not interested in all these repeats why are DVD collections of old comedy's so popular (and they must be because they're filling up my local store with them, which they wouldn't do if they weren't!) if some people are willing to buy old tv shows, I reckon there are probably a few more who are willing to pay for a tv channel (which costs less a month than a dvd in most cases!)

[sarcasm] And to the thread starter good thread pitty it's been done to death. [/sarcasm]

Yep, only two. Sky list a number of channels, but your subscription is actually only paying for Sky One and Discovery Home&Leisure, everything else is FTA/FTV. Sky did used to offer some 'bolt on' packages to go with your basic subscription (kids pack, documentary pack, entertainment pack etc) but these seem to have gone. So now with Sky you either pay £12.50 / month for 2 channels, or you have to shell out £20.50 (soon to go up again) for the family package, admittedly you get a hell of a lot with that package, but it's also a hell of a lot of money in subscription fees.

A basic point I've tried to make many times. Unfortunately, to too many people, DTT and Freeview are exactly the same thing, and both started in 2002. That there was life before Freeview seems to be a point which no one will accept.

And when people argue about TUTV trying to 'change' or 'complicate' things by introducing pay TV channels an interesting point to note is that since it's launch almost 6 years ago, only for a relatively short period of time (25th May 2002 - 29th March 2004) have there been no pay TV channels available on DTT. it's actually more 'normal' to have pay TV on DTT than it is to not.

I don't really know why myself and others are bothering to put forward a reasoned argument yet again though, since all we have to content with are nonsensical ravings with no basis in fact, and idiots who think chronic overuse of those stupid green smilies makes an argument.

Top up TV does not seem value for money, in my opinion, but that is my opinion. As a result I don't want it, but other people do want it, so what? The arguement that it takes space from Freeview seems unfounded, before TopUp, there wasn't a huge queue of broadcasters wanting to launch FTA channels.

TopUp may have a positive effect, with people knowing they can expand on their Freeview lineup for not that much, improving take-up. If that's the case they could start switching the analogue signal off earlier than 2010, potentially making way for up to 5 new multiplexes, giving you all the shopping channels you could ever need.

I think TuTV is great, but its a bit of a con showing programms at times of their choosing, the didn't say much about that before i subscribed. Even still i think its good value for money. It shows a few good channels which are on sky, but not needing a dish on your house and a £20 odd subscription.

i think it is not very good value for money but i think the way they advertise is much worse. see in the argos catatlogue not once does it mention that they are not 24 hour channels and on itv2 adverts I have seen it does not tell you that they are not 24 hour channels either . there must be a lot of people that have signed up for one month and cancelled it

No it's is exceptional value for money if you only want a few extra quality channels (E4, UKTV Gold and Discovery) compared to the lowest tier packages from the other platforms.

Personally , from an everyday sort of persons point of view, i'd like it to go, simply because it's taking up space and anyone without these special card-slot boxes can either see them and get nothing (wasting EPG space) or cant see them and face the prospect of getting virtually no new channels ever.

yes but equally I could list nearly 10 fta channels that are taking up space and i never watch them

In my opinion these are taking up space and stopping any new channels appearing

Why say 'Freeview/DTT'? They're not on Freeview. Freeview should not have been mentioned. Just say they are on DTT.

I repeat, why did you say Freeview aswell?

You're telling other people to pay attention when you hide behind those daft green smilies when people rip apart your pathetic unfounded 'arguments' and you refuse to pay attention to the facts? Oh the irony...

Yes I did include the shoppin in this

If you look at it this way

tutv are using 4.5 24 hour slots
Shopping channels using 4 24 hour slots

If you add ftn into the picture (which people complain about aswell as the shopping) they are both using the same space

So fine tutv could be wasting space for non subscribers to it, but freeview/fta/dtt (whatever you call it) is also wasting valuable space

Personally, I'd rather see tutv expand to fill those 4 24 hour slots currently occupied by the shopping channels. Not that this is going to happen.
