Keeping your number
cleocat

I've just come back from carphone warehouse and really annoyed! My hubby got a phone a few months ago and isn't getting on with it so I went into CW and asked to upgrade to a new phone keeping his old number and credit! The woman then said I needto have it for ove 6 months! Was in too much of a rush to argue!

But checking their website it has no information of 6 months it says for pay as you go anytime! So who is right?

My husband is on virgin and needs a cheap pay as you go, but needs to keep existing number and credit what is the easiest way to do this?

You don't need a new sim anyway just put the existing on in another handset. If you wanna move the number to another network call the current networks customer service and get a PAC code and give that to the new network. Credit cannot be moved though so its use it or lose it. You can move the number between networks anytime.

EDIT: By the way I assume CW is Carphone Warehouse which explains why the staff don't know shit.

Just buy a cheap SIM-free phone elsewhere and put your current SIM card in that. You could always trade your old phone in to go towards it.

CW PAYG phones are actually unlocked so you get just get the cheaper PAYG variant and use your current SIM - they actually recommend this if you ask to buy an unlocked mobile from them. (I've got a couple of unused vodaphone sims as a result )

I'm assuming they get a commision from the network for "selling" their SIM regardless if it's ever used.

Six months is the length of time between Pay and Go upgrades (when you can get a reduced priced handset with no top-up necessary). Of course, you can pay normal price, or buy SIM free, at any time.

Here's what their website says about Pay and Go upgrades. As you can see it clearly mentions six months, so I'm not sure where you read anytime. It also shows the discount you get.

i eventually sorted it, phones4u managed to do it no issues just did a search on the computer! I didn't want to spend an extra £10 on air time that would never be used, seemed pointless!
