Humax Foxsat-HDR Number of recorded programmes exceeds limit
phaselock

The problem with my Humax Foxsat-HDR is that the number of recorded titles (programmes) has reached the limit, although the 1 Tb hard drive is only 56% full.

When record is pressed it will record nothing more, instead displaying the mssg:
- The number of recorded programmes exceeds the limit -

The number of recorded titles is around 1166. (129 pages of nine titles plus a few extra) As you may imagine many of these are just short clips.

Any ideas as to what could be causing the limitation on the number of titles ?
Could some RAM memory or something be increased to solve the problem ?

(software version 1.00.13 loader U 7.53)

Normally it would be a limitation created by the number of bits allocated to keep track of the recording list.

What happens if you create a folder and move all the short recordings into it ?. It may be a root folder file number limit.

Alternatively archive a lot of them to a USB drive, an ext3 formatted drive will hold hundreds and you can replay direct from usb.

Interesting that you are on 1.00.13 - I guess that your box is never left in Standby?

It seems there is a finite limit to the number of recordings. I had this exact error message last year

Unfortunately bob_cat did not specify the number. I did have a large number of children's TV stuff on a drive "for a rainy day" and copied them off to a third separate external drive and the problem went away.

Interesting to read of your similar experience and find that I was not the only user to encounter the recording number limit.

My solution to the issue was to swap out the drive for another, but it was somewhat annoying to have to buy another 1Tb drive when there was around 45% of the existing drive still unused. Kind of shattered the idea of buy a 1 Tb drive, fit and forget. Some warning in the form xxx recorded out a possible yyyy files would be helpful rather than getting the limit message out of the blue and thereby missing some desired recordings.

To be fair over a 1000 recordings is rather more than such a device would be expected to hold.
