5.8 GHz Wireless AV Sender
I would like to view my BT Vision box on a TV in the next room. Would I be able to watch recordings, and use my Vision Box remote control?
Can anyone recommend a 5.8 GHz Wireless AV Sender? Are there any problems to watch out for, for instance how far from the television does the Sender have to be positioned? |

I'll take a wild guess - nobody knows. Either that, or it's so simple that no one thinks an answer is needed. I've ordered one and will find out fairly soon.

The answer is that depends on several factors including what your house walls are made of. My 5.8GHz sender from CPC can't get through a 9" solid brick internal wall and struggles to get through a 20mm solid softwood door.
If you've got a modern house with thin plasterboard walls and flimsy panel doors then you might be OK, but a 2.4GHz sender will probably be better. The other ting about my sender is that it needs a line level audio input signal to make its signal to noise ratio bearable. With low level audio its hiss is very intrusive. |

I have tried a 2.4 Ghz sender. The thing itself works a treat but the interference from wireless networks is a pain in the 'arris. I am going to invest in a 5.8Ghz when they further drop in price

Thank you Intercept and Andrew Burley for your replies. I managed to get a picture on the second set, but the hiss made its use impossible, so it went back in its box.
I did get a SanDisk Cruzer Blade 16GB ... £11.99 which enables live TV to be paused, fast forwarded and rewound. It also records. The resulting recording can also be watched on a laptop. Your TV obviously has to have a usb socket. |

I used to use an AV sender, and avoided the hiss problem by listening with wireless headphones (fed by the original TV). The wireless headphones happily reach other rooms with no hiss or interference. (They use a different frequency.)

I got my 5.8ghz stuff from the states ( RF-LINK) and it works a treat. The guy next door got his from Maplins and it was a load of s**t.
I guess all video senders are not equal. |
