What's your verdict of tonight's (3/09/04) episode?

a bit iffy for my liking - but least they are trying new things. To much of Minty, Andy and the Ferrieras (sp) though.

Of the three stories being told: the hospital scenes with Pauline & Sonia were possibly the best written, but fewest-and-farest in between; the lock-in was the most important aspect of the episode but had wrong characters, instead of Minty & Ash, why not have Kat? A woman in there could have worked quite well. the writing too was varied, from odd good moments (Ian standing up to Andy Pandy was class, and Dennis & Ash's stand off was interesting) but alot of sag in between; and the stag night, which had bad characters, bad writing, bad acting, and took up too much time. Typical.

The direction of it had high-class EE style, too. Mainly the Lock In scenes. Touches like Nana singing to Baby Bobby Beale (or, The B) over the opening scenes was a great touch. Good to see Nana again. Lovely. And I think the episode did favours for Andy too. Miracles do happen.

It was a generally good episode. Although it could have done 50 mins. About 8 mins of stuff, i felt, was just used to fill and was utter twaddle (mainly alfie, minty and ian)

i enjoyed seeing the contrast. you had the older men, in a pub, talking about what youth was like and how they spent it and what they thought youth was etc. while the room was quiet, dark, and empty.

this is them contrasted with the boys at angies den, living it up, getting drunk with their whole lives ahead of them.

There were the blokes - ian, alfie, jim, patrick, ask, minty, dennis and andy.

and in the club there was martin, tariq, ronny, spencer, and mickey and whoever else.

so numbers wise, was pretty even.

i think it was cleverly edited, thought out, making sure each of the three section made their points. the boys being youth, the men being age and memories and dots meaning the end.

even though some of the writing was poor.. never cross the bridge until you get there... what was that about?! and sonia always say What? Sorry? What?, was slightly annoying, i think tonights episode was what EE needed to prove that they will hang in there, even when we slate it

It was really nice, but I don't like the feeling of that girl who Martin slept with dying in a few months.

I agree. I could have done without the lads night out and the Pauline and Sonia scenes. I do find it strange though that Jim chose to spend the time in the local boozer instead of waiting at the hospital.

Crap- only parts I liked were with Alfie/ Dennis and Andy. Funny, because I usually hate Andy. My hatred is now fully focused on Pauline these days though.

:P I dont find that weird. Jim needed someone to talk to really (Patrick etc) and the Vic is like his sanctuary. He also prolly didn't wanna have to listen to Pauline blabbering on about things I didn't wanna hear

Andy is growing on me. It's gonna be interesting when Den gets back (i.e - full throttle gangsta wars brake out) with Dennis being a Watts but having this strange strong bond with Andeh Pandeh...

I enjoyed tonights episode, but the thing that really annoyed me was Spencer! The way he just whinged on about Kelly ever 5 minutes and then part way through every scene saw him on the phone "Taylor, Kelly Taylor, oh tell her its Spencer/our song etc etc".
And tonights episode was probably the first time Andy didn't annoy me!
All in all a good episode.

I thought it was a good episode, the Dennis/Andy bits was great, Jim was also great, Minty was for the first good tonigh. Most of the pub part were great, one or two crap and not need scenes, the hospital scenes with Pauline & Sonia were also great. The thing that had the biggest problems was the stag night. Ronny , Tariq, Spencer and Mickey were all crap, Martin was ok
I argee that the episode should of been 40 mins or 50 mins as some scenes were pointless.
Nice to see Nana again
It good that EE are finishing one big storyline and start another big storyline at the same time (the Martin/Sarah).

just kept going on and on and on!

what was the point of the hourlong one? what an anticlimax! after all that waitng for dot it turns out after all she is ''alrite''! !

martin and the waitress? after waitng an whole hour it was crammed in the last 5 mins and even then we didnt see anything!

and the drunken men in the pub.... whats that about? these 5 grown men were acing like little kids caught being naughty when andy came in!

Andy does seem to be growing on me. It's either that or just that there are other people that have priority at the top of my hit list. He's slipping down it anyway- Pauline/ Ferrieras & Dirty Den are up there though!

I agree, it actually felt like EastEnders tonight if you know what I mean. There have been numerous times I've watched EastEnders this year an I haven't really recognised it, like the set an all it familiar, but the writing and stories weren't always up to scratch. Tonight it actually felt like EastEnders. I thought it was a good episode with some nice sentiment. Andy and Dennis's bits were good, I thought Ian standing up to Andy an getting a slap was class. Although I felt EastEnders was too heavily dominated by the men tonight, except Pauline and Sonia. IN saying that I suppose there wasn't really any point in Kat being there, an Zoe had to be out of the way in order for Dennis to feature how he did.

I thought stag do was probably annoying in parts, Tariq an Mickey really got on my nerves at times. And the way they all ran into the cafe an hid! yeh! like the bouncers will chase you up to road an leave the club! duh!

I did like the bits where Pauline was telling Sonia of her memories of Dot from years ago, as it reminded me of when me Nan was dying a few months back, how we talked of her in the hospital, of our memories of her and the not crossing any bridges part made a lot of sense to me. It was nice to Nana Moon again too.

All in all a pretty solid episode, despite its ropey part, mainly the stag do, I felt further proof that EastEnders is hanging in there and improving gradually.

I know what you mean, i too thought it felt more like the real EastEnders, how EE should be.
