Dead Heat, Man from Hong Kong, and Sword and the Sorcerer? Actually ITV played the last one back in '86. Still waiting for the others though.

The last "major" premiere on terrestrial tv of a film that wasn't backed by either BBC/ITV was Terminator 3 on Channel 5 a few years back.

I don't understand this post? Sex and the city was premiered on terrestrial tv like 2 weeks ago? I think people are misunderstanding the thread.

No Terrestrial Broadcaster or Free To Air/View Broadcaster are allowed to show any New Movies first because of the following reasons

1) The Law and the Movie Studios

2) DVD/Blue Ray sales comes first

3) Sky's Stranglehold on this industry/sector, this is why there is currently an investigation into this by the Competition Commission

See Here http://www.competition-commission.or...ngs_report.pdf

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitalt...ie-rights.html

4) Deals with various other Movie Companies like Lovefilm, FilmFlex, BT Vision etc, etc

I think we could see The Dark Knight premiere by the end of the year. I think it'll be on ITV.

I think the point of the thread is to discuss movies that have yet to be shown on terrestrial television - i.e after they have aired on Box Office/Sky Movies.

So I'll chip in

Channel 4 showing 'Four Lions' on 4th September.

Hilarious film although the timing of the premiere has caused some controversy.

Both Slumdog and Four Lions are Film4 co-productions aren't they? I believe The Queen was also shown on itv1 first as well... As it was an itv production.

Personally... If itv were to show The Dark Knight they'll probably ruin it. They are the single worse channel (channels) to show movies on... they show them in the wrong ratio, they cut things out etc etc.

1) The Law
Ah yes, the little-known Motion Picture Terrestrial Televising Act 1992

I know News Corp have had the various governments of the past couple of decades under their control, but I don't think they managed to get this through...

The Dark Knight has already been shown months ago on TV 3 in Ireland so I suspect ITV may actually be holding it for Christmas or it will be shown sometime in November. The Hangover is being shown on RTÉ ONE in 2 weeks so it's premiere on probably ITV (as they seem to have the deal with Warner Bros.) could also be anytime soon. Or maybe they are keeping them for Christmas Day and Boxing Day to serve as their big movies?

ITV tend to show their "big" movies in the run-up to Christmas, because that's when advertising is at its peak.

I'm pretty sure that one year they premiered a James Bond movie at the start of December, then showed a Sean Connery one on Christmas Day.

I think it means:

"OK, I'm talking about satellie, but there are some channels on the satellite at 7°E (a position in space, Sky is broadcast from 28.2°E) that go free to air (so you can watch if you point your dish in the right direction) in the run up to Christmas and show good movies in English."
