I think it means:
"OK, I'm talking about satellie, but there are some channels on the satellite at 7°E (a position in space, Sky is broadcast from 28.2°E) that go free to air (so you can watch if you point your dish in the right direction) in the run up to Christmas and show good movies in English." |

Channel 5 are premiering Pineapple Express (2008) on Sunday 13th November.
I suppose it's all a matter of opinion, but I watched that via Lovefilm last year and it was terrible.

Talking of Premieres, on another thread I was reminiscing about the ITV premiere of Jaws in 1982 or 1983 was it?.... Thursday night - started at 7.30pm if I remember rightly and watched by over 20 million!
I remember years ago (mid/late 1980s??) ITV announced they would be premiering The Klansman (1974 movie starring Lee Marvin), but I remember at the time the film wasn't shown and to my knowledge has never been screened on terrestrial tv. |

Jaws was first shown by ITV on October 8, 1981, and BARB recorded an audience of 23.30 million. It was the highest-rated television programme of 1981.It was first shown in the US by ABC in November, 1979.
www.barb.co.uk Thanks for that ftv - don't know why I thought it was 82 or 83 - the memory does pay tricks as you get older! I DO remember talking about it at school the next day though!

Indeed we will, there will be The Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, The Great Escape.............
![]() Amazingly enough that is one film I have never watched! The other two are fine films of their type - and the type of films you could watch again. I am still amazed that there are thousands and thousands of films out there that have never been screened (or not been on in years) on terrestrial/freeview tv - from classics and gems and foreign films right up to the better known and cannon fodder straight to video/dvd stuff in recent years. We seem to get films playing out time and time again - ah well I suppose it's to do with cost and rights and contractual obligations etc.. etc..

TBH - I used to enjoy movies on TV, but have given up now - I just wait till it comes out on DVD! Advert-Breaks do my head in!!! (EVERY TEN MINUTES!!!). Forget it.
If I see a film on BBC that I like - I jump for joy!!

The rest of the time I get them from Lovefilm (about 6-8 a month), but even their huge catalogue misses out on some of the new releases (due to some contractual dispute with one of the distributors - so no 4.3.2.1 or Public Enemies e.g.) and miss out on many classics (Charlie Chan e.g.). |

What about another angle on the issue?. If I recall correctly from films I've noticed that FTV\FTA terrestrial channels seem to have to or choose to make more edits to scenes for reasons that I'm unsure of. I guess it's not just premieres but a general thing in that terrestrial tv seems to be more regulated as to the content of the scenes of films that it can show?.
I know I'd sooner see a full un-edited film than an edited version because some person somewhere feels a certain section of scene in a film is to graphic. An example might be on ITV the last time they screened Predator they did not fully show the skinned carcus of the soldier hanging from the tree yet I have seen the film on Sky and dvd and that part of the scene was included for some reason. |

Yes there seems to be more cuts to films shown on terrestrial. Like you I would rather see the whole film unedited/uncut as it should be - so long as they don't tinker with anything major (like deleting the shower scene from Psycho!) then I can put up with it - mind you the majority of films I now see through Lovefilm. |

Well remembered - it was 7.30! At least, it was on STV anyway (but probably the same across the network):
http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...rontpage&hl=en (page 16) Well I was a bit out on the year, but odd that I remembered the time correctly! Remember getting The TV Times (as you had to in those days for ITV and laterally CH.4) and was excited to learn it was on during the week - as said it was THE big talking point in school the next day! Easy to forget that even back then STV had their OPT OUTs such as Thingummyjig on a Friday night, Take The High Road, and after News At Ten was quite a mix at times! I think what annoys me and others on here is their abandonment of night time tv as a national broadcaster, their vast reduction in tv production, their sub standard programming, and their farcical schedule at times... However, we look back fondly - and back then Jaws was certainly an OPT IN! Thanks...

I remember a few years back starting to watch a film on ITV that was billed as a TV Premier that I had seen before and as I hadn't been inside a cinema for 30 years I had to have seen it on TV.
So the claims are not always truthfull. (I also don't buy DVDs before anyone mentions that) |
