So why is it that the terrestrial channels take so long for the movies to come on air. Take The Dark Night for example why has it taken this long for them to show that movie.
WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP ASKING ABOUT THE DARK KNIGHT? It's £15 for both Batman Begins and TDK in a triple play pack. Please tell me you haven't been waiting for ITV to show it?

Even if you have the movie on DVD sometimes it's still fun to sit down and watch it on the tv with the ad breaks etc.

I was just reading the Town Called Eureka first novel and sheriff Carter has the same discusion with his daughter that there is something still special about watching live sports or movies on the linear broadcast channels

Sports: Maybe
Movies; No, especially not if you're American...

I can understand where you're coming from, but as said before the terrestrial broadcasters are miles way from where they were years ago screening big film premieres etc...

They call it progress - and progress has seen the terrestrials overtaken by video/dvds, then Sky, now Lovefilm/Netflix - next streaming films.

We will never go back to where we were years ago - and when I see what I've rented through Lovefilm you know what I'm quite pleased we won't.

ps Anyone know when The Dark Knight is coming on?

I know exactly what you mean. I prefer watching films on TV definitely! I hate dragging myself up to the DVD player, having it there ready, is much simpler IMO. And the ad breaks are helpful for a wee

Paranormal Activity (Icon) - I believe the BBC hold the rights, probably around Christmas (like most of their other premieres)
Sherlock Homes, Harry Potter 7 (pt. 1), The Hangover (Warner Bros.) - ITV hold the rights (with the possible exception of Harry Potter), god knows when we'll get those...
2012, Angels and Demons (Columbia) - Channel 5, expect a 3 year gap after theatrical release...
Toy Story 3 (Walt Disney) - BBC, due to Disney Cinemagic, expect a three year gap after theatrical release
Shrek 4 (Dreamworks Animation) - BBC, probably this christmas
Iron Man 2 (Paramount) - Channel 4, early next year?
I'm really disappointed with Paranormal Activity! The BBC have the rights, why aren't they showing this next Wednesday?? I wish they showed it at 9pm on Halloween night! It's been AGES since I've seen a movie premiere on at primetime! Showing it at Christmas is pointless

It was a guess. The BBC might not even have the rights, and the BBC don't stick film premieres in prime time cos they get accused of laziness if they show films in place of programing (except a Christmas when everyone expects films)...

9pm is the 'main programme' slot, usually a drama, or comedies on Friday. So films get bumped after the news.

Personally, I'd ditch the news on BBC1 and ITV, unless they can stick it much earlier in the evening like C4. It just gets in the way of regular TV. And that's what BBC News is for!

It's a license requirement for ITV to have the news on at the time. Which is presumably why they cut films in half instead of sticking the news on earlier...

They manage it at weekends (sometimes)

My understanding is that it has been as close to ten as possible for around 90% of the time, so if they were to change it they'd probably get a telling off from Ofcom.

It's 11.15pm tonight and 11.05 tomorrow. Far from close to 10pm. Is there a special dispensation for weekends and, why is it an issue being at 10pm anyway?

I personally think that the 9pm slot should have a bit of variety. From time to time, i.e every month or so, I think there should be a movie premiere on there, especially on BBC1 and ITV1. There are always a lot of drama/comedy/documentaries etc, which I don't mind! But a movie once in a while would be nice Anybody agree?

It came on in 2006, before it was even made. And people insult ITV!

I think it's to do with accessibility (and tradition suggests the news will be at 10) so ITV keep it in the same format. C4 were recently whinged at for falling news ratings (despite having the best news coverage), so ITV aren't willing to risk it.

It would get split by the news, so I'd pass. There's been the occasional decent movie premiering after the news, so I'd keep them there. Stops them clashing with something else (and yes, I could record something and catch up later, but if I can watch a programme live, I find it more convenient)

Does anyone under 45 still watch ITV these days? I only watch Take Me Out as it's car crash TV, but the rest of the time, there's only ever one thing at most on there. The rest of the time, except for X-Factor, it looks like the kind of channel my parents would watch.
