According to the BBC website, Winter's Bone has never been broadcast before http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01d76dw/broadcasts

King's Speech was not on at Christmas. It's barely two years old...

okay, I googled it, winters bone was on Sky Arts - I forgot that they show some movies.

I remember ads for kings speech but it could have been on one of the sky movie channels.

It's just finished a year's run on Sky Movies, too.

Good film, but quite bleak.

Same studio, but only Channel 5 could have the rights to 2012 and miss the obvious boat completely(!)

TV 3 in Ireland are showing The Dark Knight for the third time now. Where's ITV's broadcast gone? Or are the contracts up and a different network are gonna pick them up and premiere it instead?

I hope Channel 4 get them if they do. At least then we can be guaranteed they'll be shown in OAR and in HD as it's a new deal and they'll specify that's what they want.

No, ITV still have the Warner deal and chances are they will for a long time. They clearly aren't in a rush to premiere the Dark Knight. I know it's a 30 month hold for premières in the US, but that has passed now has it not?

It's only 2 years or 2.5 years in the UK IIRC. It came out in 2008 so cold have been on TV from around mid-2011 onwards at the latest.

Oh, and I already own the DVD boxset! :-P

I'm just wondering why ITV haven't shown it yet, especially when they had the perfect opportunity to do so around the release of the third film and guarantee great ratings for it.

Well, if they wanted to be truly OAR, then they'd show the IMAX scenes in 1.44:1 and the scope scenes in 2.35:1, but as the Blu-ray is a combination of 16:9 (for IMAX) and 2.35:1, it'd be interesting if they went with that.

Shame they never show and films in DD5.1, but they confirmed it's not in their 'transmission infrastructure' when I asked them recently, and they have no plans to change this.

I would've thought the same, too. However, this is ITV. They're not exactly full of clue.

Get Him To The Greek is a Universal film. What the hell is it doing on C4?
pad_ehh
09-04-2013
Channel 4 have shown a few Universal films before. They also have shown some Warner Bros. films, even though ITV have the rights to Universal and WB films. Either they bought them on a once off basis or perhaps new contracts have been entered into and we just don't know it yet?

If I remember correctly the only Universal/Warner Bros./Sony films they've shown were through deals with separate studios. Bruno (Universal/Media Rights Capital), Inglorious Basterds (Universal/The Weinstein Company), Terminaor: Salvation (Sony/The Halcyon Company).

Get Him To The Greek is odd, because it's a sequel to "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" which airs on ITV....
pad_ehh
09-04-2013
They have also shown Empire Records and The Negotiator which are both Warner Bros. & Regency / Monarchy productions, so wither they have deals in place for those small studios or they are buying films on an as per basis that may have become available after the most recent deal was stuck with a different terrestrial broadcaster?

The Get Him To The Greek situation is strange though. Is it a Universal only film or perhaps Channel 4 have a deal with whatever distributor/production company and that's how they got it over ITV. It's produced by Relativity Media and some of their other films like Salt and The Wolfman have been on Channel 4, but other films they have produced like Step Brothers and Pineapple Express have ended up on Channel 5!

My head hurts!

Get Him To The Greek was co-produced by Relativity Media/Spyglass Entertainment/Apatow Productions. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was just Universal and Apatow Productions. Funny People also recieved it's premiere on ITV and was a co-production between Apatow Productions, Mr. Madison 23 Productions and Relativity Media.

Based on that evidence, it appears that Channel 4 have post-2010 Relativity Media films and that pre-2010 they were property of the theatrical distributor. But I think it's too early to call it.

They also had 2011's Limitless from Relativity in the US and Momentum in the UK. Though based on other films c4 have shown that appears to be a deal with Momentum rather than Relativity

Step Brothers and Pineapple Express were Sony, which is why they ended up on Channel 5.

That's an interesting development. Perhaps Channel 4 have snatched the Sony deal from Channel 5.

My guess is that one or two major new deals have recently gone down at Channel 4. Possibly with Relativity Media and Sony. I'd quite a few more weeks before we call anything though...
