Cool; I remember streaming Wall Street from Blinkbox a while back (at rental rates - £2.50) but wasn't impressed that I couldn't rent Wall St 2 at the same time - as they only had it for "sale". And while £2.50 or £3.50 is an impulse buy. £7 for a stream *isn't*.

FINALLY! Someone who actually HAS A CLUE and has listened to what we've been saying all along!

Release everywhere, on all formats, and all at once! That way, guess what? LESS PIRACY!

It's a good experiment but it wouldn't happen all the time.

I don't mind them only being in the cinema first, as long as they GET SHOWN, ODEON!

Similarly, I wanted to go and see the latest Die Hard film, but at the last minute it was hacked to a 12A. Even the film that the critics were reviewing was the uncut version! In the week it was released, they saw it on the Monday, the BBFC announced the cut version requested by Fox on the Tuesday and the film came out on the Thursday.

In all cases with all major releases, you can find camcorder versions online but they really are piss-poor. The exception were the Oscar screeners, but they will be Dolby Pro Logic and DVD quality at best, which is fine for most, but you won't get Blu-ray quality.

As such, for Die Hard 5, I'm having to wait for the Blu-ray release to watch it on a screen that's smaller than the one in the cinema.

I could say why I have my opinions on this, but I summed them all up here:

As interesting as that Film4 idea is, it's going to be seen as gimmicky, and who's going to pay to watch it?

If they want no ad breaks?

Ad breaks don't bother me for a film. I'll either record the film beforehand, or watch live and use that time to get another drink/use the loo/etc.

During The Hobbit at the cinema I wish they'd had a break in the middle - at least to stretch my legs! - given that they'd had 30 mins of crap before it actually started!

Blimey... I thought it was one of the best action movies I have watched in a while. Watched it twice at the cinema

Now transformers... there's a pile of shit.

Anyhow... Still no The Dark Knight on terrestrial tv?

Same here - use the break if watching live, or just f/forward through if recording.

I remember seeing the film Housesitter (Steve Martin/Goldie Hawn)at a fleapit cinema years ago - slap bang in the middle of this 100min. film was a break for 15 mins! Cue usherette with Kia ora & Cornettos - talk about taking the biscuit!

Each to their own I guess - for me there have been far better action films over the years - and check out some of the French thrillers made in the last decade!

La Haine was shown years ago on BBC2, but as with countless other films they have never been shown again, or probably never will if they haven't already The list of films never shown on terrestrial tv runs into the hundreds, if not thousands (sadly). That's where Lovefilm/Netflix come in!

ps If you like French thrillers, then try and check out:- Mesrine (2009), Serpent (Le Serpent 2006) , Anthony Zimmer (2005), La Femme Infidele (not an action one, but very good drama/thriller - 1969), Touchez Pas Au Grisbi (1954), Rififi (1955), Assault (2010), Gang Story (2011), La Mariee Etait En Noir (1968), Prey (2011)...

Does anyone know if and when Deep Throat will be shown on terrestrial? It was made 40 years ago but only got a video release in 2000, but to my knowledge has never been shown on television. Is it just a case of broadcasters not buying the rights, or are they banned from showing it?? I would have though that now it's on video they would be able to broacast it.

According to Wikipedia, it's a pornographic film, I think Ofcom might have a problem with a FTA broadcaster showing it...

And if you watch that censored version, you'll see how they'll get more complaints with the appalling censorship.

Below is a review of it on the old version of my site (I still haven't transferred a lot of it to the new version) and there are stills from the film in it, but they look more like a 'magic eye' picture rather than anything remotely pornographic!

(Still, I have to add a NSFW warning just in case)
