I can't remember when it was, but it was only the 6th film which they've shown OAR.

And ITV also show Universal films like Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead in 16:9. They're open-matter so not as bad as a cropped image, but ITV also show partially censored versions as well, primarily for the c-word.
I meant the last one they premièred not 7B...

Also, ITV don't allow the c-word unbleeped until after 10PM and I imagine they're too lazy to have multiple versions on their system...

Wonder what they'll do with Ted? where the one use of the c-word can't removed because then the rest of the scene makes no sense, unless they use the redub for US TV. (Although previous MRC/Universal film, Bruno, appeared uncut on C4 so it might not even be on ITV)

What about the weird thing in ITV HD films that I've seen a couple of times where a small chunk of either the left or right hand disappears to be replaced by black, for a scene or two and then back to the full 16:9 frame. I first noticed it on Troy, and then on the James Bond film repeats on a Saturday.
They do this for those watching in 4:3 (still) so they won't miss any credits or text that appears on screen or if on a wide shot where people are at opposite ends of the screen and one would be cut off otherwise.

Only ITV and Channel 5 seem to do this, the BBC and Channel 4 don't.
It's not that, Paddy. I've seen what Stone Free is referring to. In some scenes, you'll find a portion of the screen missing on one side but not the other. I just put it down to ITV getting a crap print. If they made the effort to get OAR prints all the time and show them properly then we wouldn't get this.

I haven't seen Ted yet, but the audience for that is going to be people who'll expect it, so I would expect they'll stick it after 10pm. I can't remember when they last aired the c-word, but then I don't watch much ITV.

Don't think ITV have a blanket ban on the c-word, I suspect it's just a timing thing - Shaun of the Dead often airs at 9pm and its use of the c-word is quite early on - as mentioned, they probably don't bother preparing two different post-watershed versions.

I definitely heard it in a screening of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang on one of the ITV channels recently - but think it started later than 9pm.

DVDFever, that's exactly it, but the chunk can be on the left in one scene and then on the right in the other.

I've watched plenty of Films on Freeview, and I've never once seen it happen on a channel other than ITV HD. (Being an HD snob, I've just don't watch ITV SD)

You would think that ITV would simply put some films on later with a warning that 'This programme contains strong language' etc. VIVA do that with their programmes (at least those I've watch) which means you've been warned so if you take offence watch something else.

I know you could argue that some people won't be able to watch films late on during the week etc. but ITV repeat their films round fairly regulary so you're bound to catch it sooner or later.

The 13 Assassins sounds fairly interesting.

I wonder when/if Cowboys & Aliens will be coming to freeview?

I reas the novel of the film and really enjoyed it. Did the same with Peter Jackson's King Kong. Sometimes the novel of the film gives you a different insight on the movie and what the makers are aiming at. Well that's what I find anyway.

I saw that film via Lovefilm and IMO it was terrible - just didn't like it at all. Also seen Asylum's low budget alternative - Cowboys & Zombies!

Stupid as this may sound but when did SyFy become available via terrestial TV?

Anyway Kick-Ass is very funny (I thought it was anyway). I saw it first on Picture Box via TopUp TV a few months ago.

13 Assissins was also very good the subtitle where big enough to read and the story was very much in the classic Japanese model. Hope they put it on again in a few months. In fact I'd love it if they did another season of far eastern films again.

Here then is another updated (SHORT!!) list for the coming week (up to & incl. Fri. 9th August). Note - Kickass has already premiered on Film4, so is not included. Neither is Sharknado, as Syfy is not a terrestrial channel.

SUNDAY 4TH:-

WHIP IT! (2009), ITV2, 9.00-11.20pm.

TUESDAY 6TH:-

THE BANG BANG CLUB (2010), Movie Mix, 9.00-11.10pm.

Watched this too - the essential samurai movie?! It was very good.

Are you sure Kickass has already been shown. It has a big Psign next to it in the radio times. And channel 4 say its a network premier

Sometimes the tv mags get it wrong, where a premiere is put against it say, on Channel 5, or Channel 4, when it's already been screened on either 5USA or Film4 etc... In this case though I think you are right, so...

SATURDAY 3RD:-

KICK-ASS (2010), Channel 4, 10.00pm.

Isn't it a Universal Pictures film? I thought ITV had the deal with them, unless Channel 4 have recently signed one we haven't heard about yet...

Let's hope C4 have got them now, since ITV wouldn't know 2.35:1 for Universal films if it jumped up and bit them on the 'ass'.

I see from IMDb it's a Lionsgate film but Universal are the UK distributors. Strangely, Kick Ass 2 is a full Universal Pictures film instead of them presenting a Lionsgate film.

At least ITV isn't showing it though, they'd have a shit attack with the swearing and violence, and also in the wrong aspect ratio!

I wish SyFy was freeview they have some really good films there.

Anyway looking forward to Kick Ass at the weekend. Nothing like a nut job in a green once piece. Must also try to watch the repeat of Super as well.

No, they really don't. Or, at least, if they do they're hidden amongst all the B-movies and Steven Segal movies

It was independently financed and later sold to Universal in selected territories (before it was produced it was deemed a bit too controversial for the US market, which is why it was a) independently financed and b) picked up by Lionsgate), so the usual rules don't necessarily apply...

Just to confuse things Kick-Ass 2 is being financed by Universal itself...
