According to Digiguide, Mechanic is on the Sunday, and Tinker... isn't listed.

I fancied watching Chalet Girl, but a 12-cert film before the watershed? I expect censorship.

Digiguide says edited for language

It got an R in the US for language, but a 12 over here for one use of strong language and moderate sex references. (but reading the insight information it sounds like, the sex references were too strong for a PG, but not exactly strong)

On that note, quite surprised to see Film Four screen "Airplane!" uncut at 7.15pm the other night - especially as it's now been upgraded to a 12 on its most recent BBFC submission.

So it was fine at PG but now the BBFC have decided to re-rate it as a 15? I thought they didn't allow the re-rating of titles already in print? So there's a PG DVD available, a 15 rated special edition DVD and now a 12 rated edition?

It was resubmitted for a re-release to cinemas earlier this year, so was rerated at a 12 for moderate sex references and drug use. (At the time it got a PG there was no 12, and it wasn't felt to merit a 15 so examiners gave it the lower option). The 15 rating appears to stem from bonus material within the special edition, rather than the film itself.

Yeah, not uncommon for ratings to be upgraded these days upon resubmission, mostly for PG to 12 - the lack of a 12 historically seemed to have granted a certain leeway towards PG for borderline cases. See Jaws and Ghostbusters for other examples.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with most of them - very well known titles that have now been knocking around for a few decades and are immensely popular, I think people are generally well aware of their content and comfortable with the PG rating.

Why resubmit it for cinema? Didn't they have a choice?

It's borderline. I'm not entirely sure they have to, but I think most companies will just to make sure. Especially since it was first rated before the implementation of the BBFC's guidelines...

BBFC rules - the original (and only) cinema classification previous to this was before the current age ratings were introduced, so the only cinema certificate it had was an old A. It therefore needed a new submission to give it a modern classification.

Technically, it had also had a change of distributor (from CIC to Paramount, even although Paramount were half of CIC) and it may also have required recertification because this was, presumably, a digital print - although the guidelines seem a bit fuzzy on that to me.

It always amased me that the film got a PG in the first place, especially for the scene where :-

Spoiler
Elaine blows up the automatic pilot simulating oral sex!

So, I'm not surprised that it got uprated!

Kids wouldn't get it, so it's like similarly suggestive scenes in the Simpsons, which still get a daytime airing.

IIRC, it's the only one shown in its correct ratio on ITV, so it has been on before.

I only noticed one blindingly-obvious (and really bad!) edit. There may have been more but I didn't notice them as I haven't see the film before.

Not a remake of the famous American thriller starring Lee Marvin - this is a foreign one - and it's worth watching!

I'd watch it if it was in HD, but it's on BBC4, so it won't be

Is it any good? There seems to have been an endless series of films over the past couple of years which set themselves up as thrillers but come across as having no thrills.

Insidious is a weird one, it got a PG-13 in the US, a 15 over here and an 18 in Ireland...
