Apologies for going off topic but i thought that people on here would know best.

My question is why are some older movies on Sky only available via sky store?

Are the ppv rights for older films separate to traditional broadcast rights?

If not then why do Sky charge for certain films?

Channel 4 seems to have the best movie rights out of all the terrestrial channels. The Grey is a cracking film... I highly recommend it.

Just a quick mention that MOVIES4MEN has launched nationally on Freeview - channel 48. Whilst it may contain very few movie premieres it is broadcasting war/action/western/adventure/scifi type movies (plus the odd documentary) more or less 24 hrs. a day (8am-3am if you exclude teleshopping!).

Movies are from the 1930s right up to recent offerings. I've already earmarked at least a dozen films I've never seen (or recall never being shown for years) to view over the coming week - not exactly blockbusters ala Sky but this now gives us 3 dedicated film channels on Freeview.

ITV should have Skyfall this year

And should also start dipping more into their deal with Universal/Warners

Hang on though, isn't Skyfall by Bond Standards a long film?

To put it into context Goldeneye when shown is 2hrs45mins so how would ITV manage to schedule an ever longer film at Christmas for example?.

I would have thought that given it's accolades maybe even BBC ONE might try for the rights even if just a one off...

Skyfall's about 2 hrs. 25 mins, and IMO is way too long - about 20/25 mins. and personally it is one of the poorest Bond films - Daniel Craig is fine, but the storyline and plot are convoluted and all over the place. Just my opinion, I'm sure there are plenty who will disagree.

They've got enough big films. Everyone will have seen it by then anyway.

I agree with you. Bloody awful film for many reasons, not least for the fact that it copies The World Is Not Enough by not having the bloody villain turn up until the film is half over!

The opening is fine, but almost everything from the godawful theme song onwards is just terrible, and it goes on way too long. There's also a couple of deaths that look like the BBFC had their scissors out to get it down to a 12, but it turns out it was down to piss-poor direction. Skyfall makes Quantum of Solace look competent by comparison.

It's one of those films where the critics all "loved it" just because it was the 50th anniversary and they didn't want to appear to be swimming against the tide.

I haven't really liked any of the Craig-led Bond films, that I can remember. They seem to have lost the humour of the previous ones are are far too serious. And Skyfall was the worst of the lot. Nothing really happened except a few set pieces.

I may try and find them on TV at some point to see if I'm remembering wrongly
