So which intelligent person at Channel 4 scheduled two film premieres at the same time?

I saw a stand alone trailer today for the network premiere of The Artist on BBC 2, which is pretty rare nowadays. Anyone remember the last time the BBC did this (not counting the annual christmas films trailer) for a premiere that wasn't a BBC Films production?

C4 is full of bright sparks. They snip the Simpsons to bits and talk over end credits as if we're incapable of reading and understanding a TV guide. They're very special individuals there.
And talking over the credits is only an issue to pretentious people, who seem to congregate around the broadcasting forum... |

I don't have an issue with them cutting the Simpsons, even that time they cut the term "gay", because if they hadn't cut it some arsehole would have come along and complained it was homophobic. (And Ofcom would have almost certainly sided with the complainer, because the use of term was iffy at best.) Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Really? It's an issue for Equity, as well, along with the scrunching which is what led to the slight change on the latter issue.Equity is that thing that actors join, if you weren't sure. |

Equity is that thing that actors join, if you weren't sure. I was also aware it was an issue for Equity, who complained to the BBC, which led to the promise that at least one episode of every series would be aired without credit squeezing and may have also contributed to the recent redesign of the credit squeeze. However Equity's primary argument was not artistic (like most of the complaints on this forum are), it was over concerns that actors were not getting recognition for their roles and that it may be affecting their ability to pick up future jobs. The jobs argument is the only one that holds real water, most television is credited primarily to make money, rather than for artistic reasons, and therefore most broadcasters treat it as a money making exercise. To expect better is a waste of time and effort... |

So another film i've been waiting for, only not as long as i've been waiting for others to show
The Artist (2011) Sunday 27th April, 9.00-10.35pm, BBC2 Was it too much to put this on tonight as an Easter premiere, BBC? Could have had the BBC2 quiz next week, asshats. |

So when the production team goes to the trouble of, eg. putting different music over each episode of a show like Inside No.9 did, everyone should all just accept that it's more important for Red Bee Media to waffle about godknowswhat over the credits rather than enjoy the programme we're actually watching?
*C4 should behave in a non-commercial manner, but since it's self-financing some commercialism should be expect and tolerated. |

That would defeat the object, the quiz commemorates 50 years of BBC2, which is today. Airing it next week would miss that anniversary and just be self-indulgent.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, and it doesn't affect the programme, just that all broadcasters (with the exception of the BBC and to an extent Channel 4*) are businesses and businesses need to make money somehow, so asking them to stop a practice they see as making them money (when they are providing you a "free" service a great expense to themselves) probably won't go down well and is unlikely to gain support from within the business.

Ta. I'll look out for it next time, although I mostly see it on its Sunday lunchtime repeats where it'll get cut out. In fact, I don't recall ever hearing it before, but it's definitely there:

That can't be right, the film's 110 minutes long and in a 2 hour slot. I expect they'll extend the slot or cut the film...

Films run slightly faster when converted to PAL and the credits are usually shortened so it'll likely be able to fit the two hour running time.
