Probably Channel 4. Probably later this year, early next year...

Channel 5 is the bigger likelihood, no?

No. Sony films appear to have switched to Channel 4 last year...

Channel 5's recent première, 21 Jump Street, was co-financed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, who I believe hold TV rights for it (I think it was back during their focussing on TV rights phase), but don't quote me on that...

Wonder if it will be "The Unseen Cut" or the UK theatrical version?

I note Lionsgate have recently phased out the uncut blu-rays in favour of the 12 rated UK theatrical version so they can bundle it with Catching Fire and keep the 12 certificate.

I'll give C4 Viewer Enquiries a shout and see if they can give a straight answer a straight question (don't hold your breath)

Have Lionsgate split the rights for their films with Channel 4 and Channel 5? Seems odd that The Hunger Games would appear on Channel 4 but What to Expect is on Channel 5.

I think 5 have the Sony films back since they're showing The Vow which was a Sony film. Will be interesting who gets The Hobbit since the TV rights I believe are owned by MGM despite being released by Warner Bros. Same situation for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo although that might be with Sony.

Haven't Channel 4 already shown Dragon Tattoo?

They showed the original (and the 2 TV Movies of the other books) last Christmas, but not the Hollywood version

I emailed C4 and all they could tell me was that they didn't know(!)

So, I've just asked again:
"Is it possible if you could ask someone about this to clarify, please, as the cuts were the digitally-removing of blood splashes etc, so the running time is the same on both versions in this case."

More news if I get it.

To each his or her own. I might be thick but it seemed to be made for book fans and didn't really explain or establish a lot of the world details or flesh out any of the characters other than the leads. Decent acting, terrible fx.

The second film does a lot more fleshing out of the world.

And the FX aren't very good, because Lionsgate are indie, they can't afford to risk a lot of money on something that might not work so they didn't have as big a budget as one of the Marvel films might...

Skyfall will probably be the centrepiece of ITV's Christmas schedule if they can get it this year.

Despite the fact that anyone who wants to see it will have almost definitely seen it by now.

I asked them further about the fact they should get uncut versions when the cuts are such that the film would be shown at 9pm either way. Their reply, about 30 mins ago:

"Dear Dom,

Thank you for your further email.

It is always possible we will be able to show different cuts of films in the future, this is usually true of older films. As advised previously we can only broadcast the versions that are available to us from the distributor.

However we will pass your suggestion on to those responsible for our feature film acquisitions.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us here at Channel 4 and for your interest in our programming."

There's no way ITV would show a big film on Xmas Day*. They show them in the lead-up to Xmas when the advertising revenue is there to be had. On Xmas Day, the only ads are for the DFS Boxing Day sale.

(*That said, last year, they did premiere the two Harry Potter films around Xmas, but I wouldn't hold your breath for another big film around Xmas)
