Channel 5 is the bigger likelihood, no?
They normally save their big premieres for September onwards so we'll know more then. |

They could always move Downton to Christmas Eve if the ratings aren't spectacular this year. They could do well having Downton in Christmas Eve, IIRC December 24th was a bit of a vacuum last year.

Only guesses, and The Dark Knight - 2015 (ITV) followed by The Dark Knight Rises a week later. Ted - 2015 (Universal so C4) The Raid - 2014/5 (Momentum so C4) Django Unchained - 2015 (Sony so C4/5) Skyfall - 2014 (ITV) Sinister - 2015 (Momentum so C4) Dredd - 2015 (Entertainment Film Distributors so I think C5 is more likely) Lawless - 2015 (Momentum so C4) Men in Black 3 - 2015 (Sony so C4/5) The Avengers - Easter 2015 (Disney - though Paramount kept TV rights for some of their channels - so BBC/ITV or perhaps C4) The Cabin in the Woods - 2015 (Lionsgate so C4/5) American reunion -2015 (ITV) And John carter (BBC/ITV) |

Blimey, C4 really haven't a clue about premiering films. It's a massive film and so they stick it on at 10.55pm? I know it'd go on at 10pm at the earliest, being an 18, but nearly 11pm is ridiculous.
Also, they can't stick it on at 10PM, they always start a film at 9PM on Film4, so unless they can find an hour long film, 10.55PM, is probably the earliest slot they can give it... |

The term massive film and a low budget Indonesian action film with a budget of less than $1m rarely go together...

I think DVDfever has a point to be honest. It's a very popular title (overrated IMO) and as such deserved a more prominent placing in the schedule. If this was not possible on Film4, it should have been scheduled on one of the other channels. It's not going to find much of an audience where they've put it.

Why are channel 4 showing all the big premiers now. I saw Jonny English 2 is on in a couple of weeks. I thought that was going to be on ITV?

Yes, that is a problem. There was a 9pm C4 film recent-ish-ly which resulted in The Guard premiering about 10.50pm. That's a perfect comedy film, to me, but it's also an 18 which restricts when it can be shown.Quote:
Thanks I been wanting to see the raid for ages now I hope its worth the 2 and a half year wait

Usually it will be shown on C4 as well at some stage.

Channel 4 have always had more than everybody else, and I believe they recently nabbed the Universal contract. (As well as possibly the Sony contract.)

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Friday Night Lights (the original film) has ever been shown on Freeview, which seems rather odd given the TV series was shown on ITV4.

The bloke responsible appeared on Points of View to basically say, "I'm right, you're all wrong." |

I think 5 have the Sony films again as they've recently shown 21 Jump Street and The Vow, both Sony films. The Paramount films seem to be in limbo, I'm guessing they will go to 5 once the Viacom deal is concluded.
It seems odd to me that C4 would show a few Sony films only for the contract to revert back a year later... |

If 5 gets the right to paramount films Will they show the long awaited iron man 2 Thor captain america and transformers 3 (even though I hated transformers 3 but didn't hate it much as number 2) |

21 Jump Street was co-financed by MGM, back when they were big in the TV game, so I'm guessing the TV rights will have been brought from MGM rather than Sony.
It seems odd to me that C4 would show a few Sony films only for the contract to revert back a year later... The Marvel films, I think Paramount had TV rights for films up to Iron Man 3, in the US, Epix which is owned by Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate showed Iron Man 3 and The Avengers so it's possible that the situation is the same here but I wouldn't be surprised if like Bond, Harry Potter and Star Wars, the TV rights are sold separately from other films. |

The BBC had the rights to the 2006 WB films as they showed Superman Returns and The Ant Bully so it's possible that Channel 4 gained the rights to the Sony films from 2010 and 2011 before Channel 5 renewed their contract with Sony, 5 did show some Sony films from 2010 like Grown Ups and The Other Guys.
I think Harry Potter is sold separately due to the fact they're book adaptations (and Warner Bros. have been very aggressively commercial in it's treatment of them), and in recent years, and I think the Bond films are sold separately because MGM isn't the copyright holder, Danjaq is... We can assume the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't a separate contract, because Iron Man (distributed by Paramount) premièred on Channel 4, and The Incredible Hulk (distributed by Universal) premièred on ITV... |
