I guess I'm just not a fan of Steven Seagal - as a film buff I make it my duty to watch most films, even Seagal's. I have seen worse though. At least 'Against the Dark' is an attempt at something a little different for him.
Fair point i enjoy a steven Segal flick he has had a few awful ones though admittedly.
Ths also solidfies what i've been trying to explain to a friend that people have different taste in movies as she can't understand why i despise The Host. Lol.

I usually try and get premieres on here between a Tuesday and Thursday, covering up to the Friday of the following week - I notice you have managed to get premieres on till the end of this month - such advance information is always welcome and thanks for your groundwork with that. As you will have guessed by our banter on here I don't presume to have any monopoly on posting premieres, others have posted too - it's just I seem to be quite often the first to post updates as I have more time to do it at the moment.

I have a friend who (like me) enjoys films, but he point blankly refuses to watch any black and white movies or indeed struggles to watch anything pre 1980s/1990s! I have recently persuaded him to watch subtitled films and each to their own I guess ( I have never seen any of the Harry Potter, most Star Trek & Star Wars films etc.... - I dislike most scifi/fantasy). I've seen thousands of films over the years - this week I have watched a black and white film from 1937, a couple of big blockbusters and a great tv movie on Movies4Men - my tastes are wide! (except Harry Potter et al as above! )

I recently tried to sit through Maximum Conviction but didn't get very far. I am pretty sure that I can beat Seagal up and I'm a weakling. On the flip side I liked The Host - a little.

Mr Sirs, I subscribe to Digiguide which can post a couple of weeks in advance although some of their listings change at last minute. Channel 5 were meant to be showing 'Blood Creek' and Film 4 were going to show 'Apartment 143', both in two weeks, but now they have vanished from the schedules. What was the black and white movie you watched? I love old films and foreign films and am also a bit of a sci fi fan - Star Wars rules! There have been no Laurel and Hardy films on tv for several years. Any ideas why?

Ah - that explains your crystal ball! Good stuff.

The b/w film I watched was The Man Who Was Sherlock Holmes - an excellent 1937 German (subtitled) comedy about 2 "actors" who impersonate the great sleuth and sidekick Dr. Watson. The courtroom scene in that film is hilarious - all in all a very clever (for its time and still fresh today) film.

I used to enjoy when BBC2 screened (years ago) Laurel & Hardy (& Harold Llloyd) around teatime - mostly 20 min. shorts. I think I've seen just about all their work (except Hats Off/Utopia & Deuces) - even seen pre duo films with them both acting separately (silents of course!). Fra Diavolo aka Devil's Brother (1933) is my favourite they have done, Atoll K (1951) probably their most disappointing.

Re screening now I wonder if tv channels are as keen to show shorts/progs from the past as many are now available via dvd/internet. Also rights to shows/actors/film studio or distributors work can sometimes be all over the place and isn't perhaps as straightforward to acquire/screen as it was years ago. And finally - is there a market for certain actors/shows/films now? Arguably L & H are timeless, but perhaps a younger generation would disagree.

Is 'Utopia' not an alternative name for Atoll k?' I have seen it - its not very good - far from their best work 'Sons Of the Desert' and 'Way Out West', and the brilliant short 'The Piano'.

I have never seen a Steven Seagal film I like, even 'Under Siege'. I think its his limited acting range and dare I say it limited martial arts range that puts me off.

Would you like me to post the premieres later? I had planned to after tonights Digiguide update, or would you like to take the reins? We could always just share the role, I only started posting them as Digiguide, despite the occasional mistake or need for correction, does list some in advance for the next two or three weeks. It tends to show what Movie Mix is airing a couple of weeks in advance especially.

Yes, apologies you're right - Utopia is Atoll K. The others you mention are very good.

Re posting - feel free to post later, as said I have absolutely no issue with it. The fact you have access to info. well in advance is a def. bonus for the readers of the thread. If you want me to put the times screened against the films (as I do when I post) I can do that if you think that would help (up to the following Friday). I am happy to do that but if you (and/or others) think it's unnecessary or if you want to do that too then I'll just leave your list be.

It is the best thread ever and CUP OF TEAAA! is a legend for starting it.

Movie Mix really are starting to improve on their premieres with some great titles including Rampart recently, alongside the usual B movie nonsense

Thank you for being so appreciative! Yes, hats off to Cup Of Teaaa! for starting it.

Movie Mix is part of Sony (or licenced by them?) - they seem to have ramped up their output in the last month or so. Movies4Men too has a reasonable selection.

This thread has shown to me the lack of films being shown on BBC and ITV recently!
ITV certainly seem to make the most of their contracts/rights to screen films - constant repeat screenings.... Fair enough, but a bit tiresome after a while.

We now have 3 dedicated film channels on terrestrial/Freeview, plus films across all the other channels. Still, there are probably hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands of films that have never been shown or probably will never be shown.

Its always worth checking out YouTube for films - don't know how legal it is - but I think for older films it shouldnt be a problem. Type in a film and chances are its on there. I recently watched the 1994 'Fantastic Four' movie which has never been released anywhere else, not even in cinemas or dvd - the story behind the film is interesting as it was made with no intention of being released which the actors were unaware of. Google it and I think you will find it fascinating.
