I have never seen an old Charlie Chan movie other than the awful one with Peter Sellers in the 80's

Yes that film was very poor. BBC2 showed the Charlie Chan films many years ago, I also managed to catch a few via Lovefilm

Why's that not on a proper channel? I wanted to see that on the big screen but chains like Odeon just couldn't be bothered with Brit flicks and would rather suck up to Hollywood fare.

Because Studiocanal couldn't find a "proper channel" to buy it.

Depends what you consider a "Brit flick", Gravity is a British film, but people refused to accept it, because it didn't fit their idea of what a British film should be. (From the coverage it was given, it sounds like Britain should only be making films in which poor northerners bitch about the struggles of life, and our entire film industry should be refusing foreign money, cast and crew. )

And the complaints about Gravity being foreign financed were stupid, I can't remember the last I even saw an entirely British-backed film, let alone enjoyed one...

I think they showed it the same week as BBC Two last showed Zodiac, because I was away and could only record one...
