Sorry, but no it isn't. It was first shown on C5 (and this is weirdly co-incidental) almost exactly a year ago; April 3 2011.

Odd, cos I thought the BBC had Disney premiere rights, maybe they've lost that contract cos Channel 5 do seem to have been showing a lot of Disney movies lately

I have no idea where the rights are as they both seem to be airing Disney films, BBC airing the newer ones too. ITV chipped into the confusion when they aired Aladdin on Xmas Day last year, a long while since they aired a Disney animated film.

I think the BBCs exclusitivity period only lasts a year or so. Maybe Channel 5 brought repeat rights and it so happens the BBC's exclusitivity ran out, so channel 5 accidentally got the premiere rather than buying premiere rights.

Will somene explain what is the BBC's obession with Cars? It's one of the worst critically received Pixar films and they continue to show it again and again. It is on today as well, when they could have easily shown a more popular movie like Finding Nemo or Monsters inc.

Have a look at this:http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=com...0&tx=175&ty=23

Perhaps the rights were cheap!

Maybe, they think people prefer recent films, they're showing Wall-E next week as well. Channel 5 are showing Toy Story on Sunday and Toy Story 2 next week though.

Yeah I guess so, I think they've lost the rights to the earlier films and Channel 5 have them, but they're only showing Toy story for some reason

This will only be the second or third time C5 has shown Toy Story actually, not really excessive for a classic and it's perfectly timed for families over the Easter weekend. They have shown others like Finding Nemo, The Aristocats and Pocahontas in the past year and half or so.

You can NEVER have enough Toy Story. Would love to see Monsters Inc. though...

I think C4 may now have a contract with Universal, cos they seem to be premiering a lot of their films (Bruno, Inglorious, Love Happens). Oddly, ITV have premiering other films from both before and after these (Funny People, The Boat That Rocked, Cirque Du Freak). Maybe some kind of dual contract or per film deal?

Love Happens's UK rights are owned by E1, not Universal.

Also, when was Funny People on TV?

That would explain it.

Funny People premiered on ITV2 sometime during February.

I'm guessing it's a rights issue and not actually an "obsession" of any kind...

They appear to have the rights to all Disney films at least since 2004 (i.e. All Pixar films post Finding Nemo).

If this is the case they have played all Pixar films they possibly can within the last year, probably within the last 6 months.

I think however that they actually have the right dating back much further than that. (They're showing Mary Poppins tomorrow and they played Heaven yesterday evening, for example) I think they've chosen to focus on newer films, perhaps because C5 have repeat rights to the old ones.

If you want obsession try the BBC and Shrek (although saying that most of the DreamWorks Animation films have been part of the Shrek franchise and they have to get their moneys worth)..
