There's also the question - why are none of C4's Universal films in DD5.1?

Cast Away was cropped to 16:9 on BBC, so no point in watching it.

Shame.”

Didn't realise the Xmas Eve showing was cut. Only saw bits of it, though. And it's already been said why they showed the 16:9 version, although IMAX is 1.90:1, so there's still some cropping on ITV.

I remember the BBC showing a version of it with an appalling electronic sound track (probably commissioned by them) I hope it's not that one.

Was that the Georgio Marauder one? Because that's an official version, it's getting an official release from EUREKA! Masters of Cinema soon (or recently)...

Difficult to say looking at IMdb but I don't think so. He seems to have been involved in 1984 and the version I saw would have been in 1973/4.

I thought Cast Away was shot in 1.85:1. Seem to recall that being the ratio on my DVD

ITV must have some Sony deal because as well as the premiere of The Smurfs I noticed they're showing the remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on ITV2. Channel 4 were showing that last year.

I'm sure Channel 4 where showing the original Swedish trilogy not the Daniel Craig remake

Channel 4 had both. And I was watching both on Channel 4 last year. Now ITV are showing the remake. Film rights are so complicated!

As long as it results in Amazing Spider-Man on ITV rather than Channel 5, i'm all for that

Actually guys I think you are right and Channel 4 didn't show the remake. Could have sworn it was on Channel 4 as ITV2 are showing the remake. Is that a premiere on ITV2?

It says it's a premiere in my TV guide and I can't remember seeing it anywhere on the freeview channels before

Either way, expect it to be cropped and edited to hell and back.

To be fair, I kinda got the impression somebody was holding the remake of TGWTDT back. It had this kind of weird sense that somebody, be it Sony or Fincher, had decided the best thing to do was to let it have a little bit of edge, but not too much, and consequently certain sequences in the film that should have been really grotesque and disturbing feel a lot "safer" than they perhaps should to the detriment of the entire film.

I can't see them being able to cut much and still have the film make sense and not feel neutered (well more neutered than it already felt)...
