Samsung phone - trying to move videos to PC problem

Hope this is the right forum! I have a Samsung S5600 phone and have been trying to move some video clips to my Toshiba laptop so I can then store them on a Toshiba external hard drive. The videos are being moved over but as MP4 which means I can't open them on the laptop nor get them to work on the HD. Am I missing something glaringly obvious here?!!!

That's presumably how they were recorded on the phone in the first place. A simple file copy routine will not convert one video format into another one. It simply clones the file byte by byte.

What version of Windows are you using? And what software were you trying to play the files in (if Windows Media Player which version)?

It is possible you need a codec to play MP4 files. One thing to try is VLC which seems to play just about anything out of the box.

Thanks chrisjr
I will take a look at the link. It seems daft to me that you can't do such a simple thing! What's the point of being able to take video on the phone if you can't do anything about it!!
