They have had some great responses on FB with regards to Run For Your Life. One thing I want to know is did the other xf contestants have airplay straight away?

I think perhaps its my huge disappointment that It wasnt a Matt original, and that it was written by GB that has maybe clouded my judgement a little

I cant get past the fact that it sounds soo TT !

There does seem to be a mixed response judging from comments on his vids! Some stalwart fans are a bit disappointed.
I just hope they will still buy it for the B sides!

with reguard to radio airplay i did see a site on another appr thrd which showed no of spins and on which stations I will try and find it..both SJ and WMYB..was record of the week on the scott mills show..let see what happens

watch the clyde interview ..isnt he lovely..one thing i will say is that was not Andy Murray..and I dont think he is a Matt fan,,because he tweeted something at christmas about that birdy/bin man song//a black mark in my book only to be forgiven if he wins a grand slam

Airplay is vital for sure. One thing the 1D fans were great at was hassling stations - tweeting, e-mailing all that stuff giving the impression there was a whole movement out there screaming to hear them. Which there probably is actually.

Meerkatt I know what you mean I do truely I love Matts version of this song his way of putting it over is great. However Matt has a lot more to give and I think his album is going to proove that. He did say that they like some of his songs so we should see something very different on the album.

It interesting really because Matts fan demographic is so wide..........I was speaking to a someone at a party at the weekend and I mentioned that I was going to be going to Inverness to see Matt Cardle and she remembered him straight away; she then mentioned it to one of the younger group there and they immediately mentioned his name without anyone saying anything at all. Now these are the people who wanted Matt to win and followed him. The age difference between the two is vast but they both wanted to hear him sing again. PR for this needs to be stepped up because there are many Matt fans who are not online and won't beable to send e-mails.

I agree with you!!!! I've spent hours replaying the song and for the first morning was trying to work out if I liked it or not. I've concluded that it's a great song and very listenable (jeez, it must be cos I've hardly had it off and I didn't listen to WWC this much) That said, it reeks a little of the machine and manipulation. It bigs up GB, which he needs at the moment cos they are trying to high profile him enough to be able to stand in Cowell's shoes and I feel that they have used Matt in that process but I can also see the exchange for him in terms of sales and perhaps appealing to a wider audience. I also feel that the rest of the album must be strong enough to carry this song. I really do feel that he's carrying it!! So yes, I feel that Matt is better than the song and can't wait for the release of his own stuff. This is a surefire hit and Im enjoying it whilst waiting for the real Matt Cardle on the album. I'm willing it to do well and I will buy it but I'm certain that it will be my least favourite when I've heard the rest Glad I've got that off my chest!!!

I have to say I whole heartedly agree with what you're saying here BB. although this isn't 'our Matt' its still Matt and his voice will carry any song...6 weeks and then we will have'our Matt' doing what we're all waiting for...the good stuff!!

I agree with that however I don't see Matt as 'ours' he is someone who has a wonderful voice who is able to write songs and is also a musician. Matt is developing his skills gaining contacts working with other songwriters of repute and generally getting the feel of the music business. I also think that 'Run For Your Life' is different yes, however Matt likes the song and so do many other people I have spoken to and those online. He will move on and not stay in a rut only singing SS and Dar., type songs. I would not want to stem his development I just want to hear him sing. I am a simple person when it comes to music either I like it or I don't; Matt has throughout the XF and now made me aware of songs I did not even know exsisted and has sung these songs making them his own. I think this is what he has done with 'Run For YOur Life.' Matt is extremely sensitive to songs and their lyrics and its obvious to me he understands the lyrics in RFYL and has connected with its emtional content. Think of HMBOMT wow we thought they were daft giving him that one to s ing but woooooooooow his renditon of that song is stunning.


We know that Matts album is to be released in October and that it will sound different to this song. I am so proud of Matt.
Matt will be getting the PR that is needed.

You make perfect sense OTTP If you can find the website you've mentioned it may be a good idea to keep track of how things are going.


1D are on Red or Black on Saturday so that will be a big boost for them (probably don't need it though) before their single hits the shops next week. Leona was on the other night and Il Divo were on last night. Simon Cowell certainly knows how to promote his chosen ones.

Regarding hassling radio stations, I wonder if we should email/tweet the stations we think will play Matt's single or is it a bit too early to do that? I have no idea about this sort of thing as its so rare for me to care enough about an artist to do this.

It's the thought that he's been used for another purpose, and that decisions have been made not necessarily with him as the priority that really bothers me.

What bothers me is that RFYL has received mixed reviews from what I've read, although more positive than negative, and I wonder what the reaction would have been if Matt's first single had been the one which they must have been planning before Gary sent in his song very late in the day. I would guess its among the handful of songs which have been released to certain people and which we are hearing are better than RFYL.
