Last night was a good one for BBC One yet again. Yes, Torchwood's figures can be argued as poor but it didn't collapse entirely; instead staying around the 3.9m mark.
TW was actually up 450k compared to last weeks 3.45m (It's been about 3.4-3.5m for the previous 4 weeks).

I wonder if that was some of the lapsed viewers just tuning in again for the last episode, or some of the timeshifters watching it live?

I don't think the live feed has anything to do with the low ratings by the way, as I'm A Celebrity does really well with no lead in. I appreciate that this view isn't exactly popular on the BB Ratings Thread - I had a read of that thread earlier and decided to keep out - it's scary over there!
LOL! You're not wrong there. I make sure I've got my bulletproofs on before heading on over to that section.

Shame though because I remember you used to be a regular and I liked reading your comments. Are you watching BB12?

No live-feed, much lower ratings, hard to see why people don't keep pushing this theory. May have made no difference, but the hardcore here want live-feed, the ratings are going through the toilet, may just be a factor, not an unreasonable assumption in my mind.

How is Neighbours getting on in Australia lately. Is it still 350k - 400k?

If there was any justice Outnumbered and WILTY would trounce DCI Banks 2 to 1.

I just sat through 90 minutes of top-notch BBC comedy (QI on BBC2, or BBC HD where I watched it, completing the set). WILTY is the best programme on television by a mile. By comparison Banks has me spitting feathers. I've only seen the trailer but that's enough for me. A bad-tempered male detective with a young female sidekick. Oh, learn the meaning of the word original FFS. Boooooorrrrrrrriiiinnnnnggggggg!!!!!!!!
Agree about WILTY being the best programme on TV. Its been consistently hilarious ever since Brydon started hosting, even a relatively quiet episode for it's standards is far funnier than any other comedy around.

I saw most of the launch night and I've seen a couple of highlights shows but I didn't particularly enjoy them to be honest. That's nothing against Five as I've felt like that since BB10 really, which I barely bothered with. BB11 was better but I still gave up after a few weeks. I think I'm just fed up of the format. I might pop back to BB12 every so often to see how its going, but I can't say the housemates grabbed my interest during the shows I watched. I should probably give them more of a chance and was a bit harsh yesterday, but I can't really muster the enthusiasm to start watching properly. I'd have felt the same if it was on C4. I have to say Five have done a good job with the production of the show, and Brian seems OK (considering it's still early days for him). Personally though I've just seen enough of the BB format.

I do admire you're enthusiasm for it Dancc, and I hope that the ratings pick up for Five's sake as they've put a huge amount of effort into it and could do with a big hit brand. I'd also love for the numbers to improve just to prove some of the arrogant, sometimes nasty people over on the BB Ratings Thread wrong. As I said earlier though, now is sink or swim time, and the producers need to pull out all the stops to get the numbers up.

Only a fraction of Big Brother viewers regularly watched the live feed towards the end though. That's why they got rid of it!

A much needed boost for Big Brother and that looks like a peak of over 2 million to me as well.

Nice boost for BB, and I'm sure that would have peaked at over 2m... interesting to see the 2nd show though.

Good recovery for BB. I did fear it would go the other way after yesterdays ratings.

I think this is the problem with the full slot ratings we normally get. It includes the 5 minutes following Home & Away which tends to be over 400k and inflates the average. One very good example of how tapechecked figures are more accurate as it can mean a difference of ~50k or more.

Anyway, it performed poorly last night across its actual slot (18:28-18:59) with just 242k (1.3%).

Big Brother Breakdown (9pm Live Show):

21:00 1,665,700 7.36%
21:05 1,794,000 7.85%
21:10 1,635,500 7.23%
21:15 1,736,800 7.54%
21:20 1,894,400 8.14%
21:25 1,720,800 7.64%
21:30 1,910,000 8.53%
21:35 2,075,300 9.18%
21:40 1,818,100 8.12%
21:45 1,926,500 8.60%
21:50 2,103,100 9.26% Brian speaks to the House
21:55 1,670,300 7.52%

It averaged 558k (14%) in the commercially lucrative Adults 16-34 demo. At its peak 17% of TV watching 16-34 year olds were watching Channel 5. This peak was repeated in the 11pm programme.

Given the opposition and previous day ratings, I'm surprised the first show began with 1.67m (7.4%). Maybe it should be on at 9pm every night? Breaking it down into 15-minute portions:

21:00 - 1.70m (7.5%)
21:15 - 1.78m (7.8%)
21:30 - 1.93m (8.9%)
21:45 - 1.90m (8.5%)

Shows it started relatively strong and stayed strong, getting a bit of a boost at 21:30 when Outnumbered finished.

Dan, do you have the 23:00 show breakdown?

They should try experimenting by putting some highlights shows on at 9pm through the week..

Yeah, I was really surprised when the 5 minute breakdown came through and at 9pm it had the highest number I had seen for any 5 minute segment all week. What a relief!

As AcerBen said maybe they should experiment and try a few more 9pm shows during the week. Wednesdays could be a good place to start, moving Law & Order C.I. back to 10pm where it would probably rate about the same.

Dan, do you have the 23:00 show breakdown?
Yes! To my surprise it actually grew its audience throughout, ad break excluded:

23:00 1,186,900 8.54%
23:05 1,144,500 8.67%
23:10 1,272,700 9.98%
23:15 1,317,500 10.81%
23:20 1,338,700 11.39%

Overall I am a very very happy man this morning. These numbers are a big step in the right direction.

I wouldn't get too excited about the eviction result just yet. Whilst it is a good figure given the disaster of the week, the first eviction in the last couple of years has performed well and then the series average has just inexplicably dropped after that.

They should definitely try 9pm. If it can peak with 2.1m up against MPD which is worse competition than some of the big 9pm offerings throughout the week, they could have a real chance of rescuing the series. The only night that would pose a true threat is Monday with Embarrassing Bodies.
