I don't understand why channels do comedy pilots, to be honest - its hard for a comedy nowadays to be fantastic straight out the blocks when there's only 23 minutes to work with excluding adverts. People are not going to watch 23 minutes of comedy when there's no follow up. By the time its started, it is all over again.
It's not like a drama when you can have a 90 minute drama (or ~67 minutes without adverts), allowing people to get into the characters and into the show, get good ratings and a recommission. Drama pilots yes, comedy pilots no. |

News of E4's Autumn schedule, which won't include Friends...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-14761922 ...which reminds me of a Dead Ringers joke... "That was the last episode of Friends. So Channel 4 is now closing down".

Or perhaps not then!
That's a terrible rating for Chickens. How did that flop, it had loads of publicity. Reset it for the late night repeat next Tuesday. |

Radio Times trying to a Charnham (minus the spelling!) but in the end conclude that even if you watch every Syco related franchise it only adds up to 147 hours in the year
(which is less than a year of watching The One Show but a lot more entertaining )http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2011-...ver-british-tv |

As a warm-up for those who are wetting themselves in anticipation of tonight's new epoch-making television event, here's a lovely clip of the show that Red & Black is a no doubt faithful reproduction of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1YgA...eature=related I imagine the challenges this week will be in a similar league to this one - I hope so, anyway - and the calibre of celebs on offer the same too.The padding will probably be similar as well - an 11 minute clip here (which bears watching in full...), with aimless chatter and filler for the first 6 minutes before the challenge actually starts. Throw in a few ex-X Factor singing stars for extra padding, a few more sob stories, some melodramatic voiceovers, and we should see something very similar to this tonight I guess...

I didn't think the apples one could be beaten, but I was wrong:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xetRH...eature=related Please Ant and Dec, and Simon, can we have these challenges rerun this week, just for old time's sake?

I wonder if ITV would have commissioned ROB? if Simon Cowell hadn't been able to sign up Ant and Dec as presenters. They must be worth 1 or 2 million viewers over any other presenter that could have been picked - Vernon Kay, Dermot O'Leary, even Philip Schofield.
The only person who could have brought in more viewers than Ant & Dec would have been Michael Barrymore.

Of course it still is an ITV show ![]() Still I think its good there is a place on TV, for a quiz show which is about intellgence, rather than the opening of boxes, or 50/50 guesses on which Jedward brother is wearing the red or black blazer. However to be honest Ant & Dec talking to Jedward may actually be worth watching on YouTube if only to hear Ant & Dec ask them which is which (welcome to our world guys), and then Jedward preform a PJ & Duncan track. Afte that we can all try and work out which is Sam and which is Mark, and if there career is more than just a copy of Ant & Decs. |

Well, made by ITV, but commissioned by the BBC of course.

lets not get into the ITV Studios shows on other channel debates.
its just ironic when you say that ITV are over reliant on Syco. I'd say the University Challenge could get 3.5m if it was back on ITV1 in a 7.30 or 8pm slot, but it obviously makes more money for ITV by producing it for the BBC (especially as ITV never put an ad break in it when it ran on ITV, which I think they only did for current affairs & religious shows, apart from UC) |

Wikipedia make reference to ITVs scheduling of University Challenge Quote:
At its inception in 1962, University Challenge was hosted by Bamber Gascoigne. The show was a cult favourite with a small but loyal core audience, and was one of a select few ITV shows which was transmitted without any advertising breaks. This meant that the show was relegated to irregular timeslots by the various ITV regional companies, such as Sunday afternoons, weekday mornings, weekday afternoons and, in some regions, late at night.
In the absence of a regular networked slot, audience figures would often fall, leading the producers to make changes to the long-standing format of the programme. For example, in the 1985 season, initial games were staged over two legs; the first in the classic format and the second played as a relay, where contestants selected questions from specific categories such as sport, literature and science, passing a baton between players whenever a "lap" of two correct answers was scored. |

Yes University Challange used to be an ITV show, it isnt anymore, I didnt refrence University Challange in an attempt to compare RoB? to a BBC show, just simply that IMO whilst YouBet featured people who knew too much about specfic (sometimes crazy) subject, nothing ive read about Red of Black? suggests the contestants wont be doing anything more than guessing if the result is red or if the result is black. Friday 2nd September 2011 - all 4.6m or below, except....
BBC One 18:30 - Regional News and Weather: 4.6m (27.4%) 20:00 - EastEnders: 7.2m (30.1%) 21:00 - Outnumbered: 5.5m (23.8%) ITV1 (inc +1) 19:00 - Emmerdale: 6.1m (32.0%) 19:30 - Coronation Street: 7.2m (34.4%) 20:30 - Coronation Street: 6.4m (27.0%) All include HD and are entire slot ratings. The England football on Sky must have done well, the soaps dented heavily. Very good start for Outnumbered, solid 6m including timeshift. |

i wouldnt think so as that would constitute gambling which would break Ofcom rules. There needs to be some element of "skill" to satisfy that test.
Besides I thought that role only applied to phone in quizzes, and not the game shows themselves. However if I have that wrong, they say so. |

so where is the "skill" in Deal or No Deal, or even Play Your Cards Right?
Besides I thought that role only applied to phone in quizzes, and not the game shows themselves. However if I have that wrong, they say so. but Play Your Card Right did require judgement as to whether the next card was higher or lower. Its the same as the difference between roulette and poker. One is a game of chance (completely random); the other of skill where the player weighs up the odds before playing. |
