We'll have to see how the football did, but I suspect Corrie finishing 5 minutes early knocked a fair amount of the figures, plus - it doesn't bode well for Fraud Squad which I think may come in with a below 3m overnight.

I think as children are going back to school next week the ratings will rise.

Second Corrie was on against last ever My Family. Doesn't bode well for it next week when it's out of its normal slot and on against Countryfile, New Tricks, WDYTYA and Outnumbered.

Waiting anxiously to see the ratings for My Family and also Miranda, to see if she was boosted by her bigger lead-in. (Edit: just noticed the "everything 4.6m or below" comment.)

Good to see Outnumbered do so well (but not surprised) although Miranda was much, much funnier than it. Outnumbered is a fairly gentle comedy series, but still funny.

I think New Tricks will definitely get its lowest rating of the series as it will face Corrie and Red Or Black. I'd say 5.5-6m.

ok fair enough, in that case, we look forward to the contestants doing Carol Vorderman type maths to work out how far the motorbike will jump, and if that lenght is red of black, factors to take into account inculde, weight, wind speed, speed of bike, height of the ramp. That I guess would be a skill.

As for the soaps I agree they are all low, but EE doesnt seem to have lost as much as Corrie did. (if you assume that Corrie normally outrated EE, and take into account that the EE figure whilst low isnt as low compared to previous figures, certainly on a Friday)

Both are owned by ITV but through seperate production companies.
Countdown is an ITV Studios production. Eggheads is a 12 yard production. ITV bought it 4 years ago and it remains a seperate company.

If ITV did get Uni Challenge back, then expect it to be relaunched as All Star University Challenge, hosted by Ant and Dec, Exec Produced by S Cowell, with z-list celebrities answering questions for their almae maters on highbrow topics of chav culture, each round interspersed with a Syco musical guest (a few raunchy gyrations from Rihanna or Katy Perry surely not lowering the tone too much), whilst Bamber Gascoigne spins in his grave*....

(* - if he was dead, of course. Which he might wish he was if this came to pass!)

Given the Corrie rating includes +1 (which might have done better than normal last night given the footie), the true ITV1 overnight isn't that much more than Outnumbered.

Outnumbered outperformed for me in a crud slot. Shame it's going to get monstered by Corrie next week. The Beeb should have moved it to 8.30, so it at least gets those EE viewers who aren't transfixed by the nightly "stripped and hyped" Britain's Got Celebrity You Bet.

Hopefully Miranda did get a leg up for what I think is the best episode of the show so far - even if lower than 4.6m, it might have engaged new viewers brought to BBC1 by Outnumbered.

I note that the 6th ep of the second series, which was vaguely Christmassy, has been held back by BBC1, so will presumably air at some point in December.

Is there any news on when Miranda s3 is due? It was late 2011, then not starting filming till 2012 - is there any chance, one wonders, of it coming back this Christmas? There's a major opportunity there to hook millions of new viewers, Come Fly With Me style.

George - can you put a word in for me at ITV Towers?

Poor for Coronation St, maybe the overkill with episodes is starting to harm it. I live in its heartland- the industrial North West- and even here it doesn't crop up in conversation as much as it used to and a lot of people have stopped watching. I'm still of the opinion the two a night and endless repeats have hurt the vintage show. Maybe ITV1 should look at showing LE and drama in the 8.30 slot on Fridays, as this always worked very well for them in the past.

Glenn Corrie was up Against a big football match and the last episode of my Family that probally dented it.

When I mentioned that it might have been dented by My Family, I was forgetting the football. I think that probably played a fair part in Corrie's poor showing. Eastenders not affected so much because the first half of it clashed with half-time.

I'd wait and see how Red or Black performs first. ITV have "big hopes" for Red or Black and everyone in the TV industry expects Red or Black to beat Doctor Who tonight according to a reliable insider on another forum.

Of course, on the other hand, remember Pokerface in 2006?

And if you have Red or Black stinking out the 8pm hour most days with ~4m, that means EastEnders performs better, the 8:30pm performs better and viewers are more likely to stick with BBC1 at 9pm.

I actually think that Red of Black will preform well tonight, however if tis as bad I think it will be, ratings will soon start to slip.

The Colour of Money might as well have been "how long is this bit of string?"

I think what will kill off Corrie is the fact it's a pale shadow of its former self, no longer has that gritty northern humour it was once famed for, and has transmogrified from a much loved "serial drama" institution into just another bland, samey, PC soap.

I was brought up on Corrie and even watched it when I went away to university, much to my flatmates' amusement. I've not watched regularly for years now.

Beating DW is a given, I mean the unfathomably popular ASFF can get 5.5m against DW so the launch of the most hyped show on ITV in years tonight is a gimme against DW.

I'm more interested in the "results show". With a shorter slot and a 12m lead-in (with trails throughout TXF as well), it cannot conceivably get less than 10m, can it? And if those 10m get hooked in, then it will have a base for the rest of the week.

I'm no great fan of modern day ITV, and seriously doubt what this new bit of "event TV" is going to bring to the table, but you can't fault their scheduling nous, which pisses all over whatever ability the Beeb has on that front.

There was full page piece in The Times today, no less, stating how this week is crucial for ITV's "fightback". It was clear that ITV execs don't just want, but need, ROB to rate in the same league at TXF, BGT and IAC. I'm sure they'll live with it being a 7-8m success, but for the staggering sums of money (£15m it said) pumped into a week of TV, they need it to finish the week as a 10-12m copper-bottomed hit. And want it to be a show they can "guerilla-schedule" like they did with Millionaire at its height - taking over the schedules every night for short runs throughout the year, obliterating everything else on every other channel.

I think it will be a 10m+ hit, unless it somehow happens to be complete stinker, but it's clearly high stakes for ITV bosses.

Good night for BBC1's comedy line-up. Am really intrigued to see how Miranda's next series does considering she will almost certainly have new viewers from this repeat run. Unsurprised to see ITV1 below 3m considering the competition.

I was hoping the Beeb might try something bold with Miranda given how well she did on BBC2 against Corrie - eg, if she is back in January/February, running it on Sundays against DOI results or Wild at Heart.

Legendary sitcoms like One Foot in the Grave, OFAH, Open All Hours, Last of the Summer Wine did not air at 9pm on Fridays, they aired to massive audiences on Sunday nights...

Good for both MPD and CBB I think. CBB has coped well this week against tougher competition and I was expecting MPD to be lower.

After being a ratings puller for the past 10 years I was surprised to see the BBC dumping the last ever My Family against Corrie, especially after airing in a 9pm slot for the last few weeks. Could it not have had an Outnumbered lead in? Although I guess even the cast gave up on the show by the end.

The Bachelor still above 1m, but it will more than likely drop under in the next couple of weeks. The Gadget Show is dying unfortunately. Something has gone wrong, because only a couple of years ago it was hitting its best ratings ever peaking with 1.5m.

Very low for the second Corrie especially and the 'Next time on Corrie' montage wasn't shown to as many people as they would have hoped for, especially considering a huge episode airs this Sunday.

No surprise really considering Sarah Beeny's similar show Streets Ahead struggled on C4.


And to think people questioned the scheduling. ITV got in first iwth arguably the best of the documentaries around in the next couple of weeks.


They've said it'll air later. I suspect myself they might begin airing it from w/c 12th Dec, basically airing two "weeks" a week as they do with AGT so the auditions and boot camp/judges house stage will be done by Christmas. WIth eight weeks of live shows over four weeks the series would conclude w/c 16th Jan. Idol premieres in the US the following week.


Not too sure what to make of that Chickens figure. Looks awful at first sight, but in comparison to other shows on C4 in the 10pm hour of late it's not that bad.

MPD seems to do better at 10pm than 9pm and maybe airing say a repeat of The IT Crowd and Comedy Showcase in the 9pm hour then MPD from 10pm would work better for them.
